I have recently went from Vista Home Premium to WinXP on my m1530 which has 4 GB of RAM. However, when I typed winver from start->run. It states Physical memory available to Windows 3,667,960 KB. Is this normal? Am I missing something :-(

No, you aren't missing anything. You are using a 32 bit OS which recognizes a maximum of 4 GB. Throw in the other memory allocations such as for video memory and you are going to see less than 4 GB.

Vista 32-bit (before SP1) reports the actual amount of ram... u have 4 GB, Vista woudl report 3.5GB

after so many people complain that they bought 4GB and only got 3.5GB.... microsoft released vista Sp1, which includes a fix reporting the memory installed, but not the total memory used/available

XP probably follows pre-Sp1 vista..... reporting the available amt of ram instead of installed ram
