Ive now tried 4 different webcam driver versions, and 2 different chipset driver versions. The driver installs fine, and the integrated camera claims to be working properly in device manager, but no applications recognize it. The LED indicator flashes a few times on boot, I assume when the driver is loaded, but I cant get any activity out of it other than that. I know it works, I tested it in vista 32 prior to my 64 bit install and in osx, both worked fine. Ive also tried disabling all non MS startup items and services, still no go. What gives?

The software might not be completely compatible with Vista 64. Try the logitech program that came with Dell and see if it works.

I thought I saw reports of some people who got it to work too, but so far, whatever I've tried has not been successful.

not sure what effect it would have being a different model, but the webcam on my 1730 works fine under Vista 64 SP1. i initially downloaded the drivers from dell.com, then downloaded the hardware updates via the Windows update program.

the only problem is that i haven't got 100% functionality, the console that lets you pick backgrounds / masks / audio effects seems to have dissapeared, the webcam works perfectly ok via Windows Live messenger though.

i don't suppose that the 1730 drivers for the webcam would work for you, but have you tried looking for updates on the windows update program? it's almost certainly a driver issue.. 32 bit drivers have loads of problems with 64 bit os's.. and the fact that you can work it via a VM means there can't be anything else wrong with it xD

Is yours a Creative, or a Logitech branded Webcam (in the 1730)?

Hmmm it's working without problems on my laptop (only the driver, I didn't bother installing the application thingie). Not sure if this has any effect on anything, but did you install it before installing SP1 or after?

Yup, I'm running on 64-bit. That's quite strange then.

    Driver Provider: Creative Technology Ltd.
    Driver Date: 10/11/2007
    Driver Version: 1.4.1.1011

    Taken from here.

Just got my box. Formatted, slapped on 64-bit SP1 (DVD incl. SP1).
    Installed all drivers ok, but don't want to install media direct 3.5;
PowerDVD Ultra and my slysoft products is all I need...

Is the Logitech software for use with the web cam on the Media Direct install,
or is it part of the supplemental discs that came with the notebook?

    thanks guys!

Has anyone been able to find a solution to this issue? I'm running an Inspiron 1525 with Vista Home Premium x64 SP1 and have exactly the same issue. The driver appears to be correctly installed in the device manager but no software is actually able to initialise the integrated webcam. I've tried contacting Dell Support but their unhelpful response stated that they do not support 64 bit operating systems (despite the fact that the driver download on the Dell website clearly states that the driver should work on a 64 bit operating system). Coupled with the fact that the laptop was shipped with 4GB of RAM (which can only be addressed with a 64bit OS), moving back to 32bit would not be a reasonable solution.

I think I've got the Creative Labs version of the integrated webcam. Is anyone aware of any other OEM drivers which might work other than the ones I've already tried from Dell (or any other solution)?

    TIA,

    Binary0110

Mine's working fine. I installed the driver and software off dell's website on 64-bit SP1 after doing the OS install. The frame rate is horrible but the camera functions along with all the webcam software manager features like avatars etc.

I installed mine after installing SP1. I wonder if that has anything to do with it. But I'm really not keen on reinstalling everything to find out. This is clearly a complex issue which will require some kind of driver update or OS update from Microsoft but so far, Dell simply hasn't acknowledged that this is an ongoing support issue whenever I have tried to raise the matter with them. Their response is that they only support 32bit operating systems which is all well and good apart from the fact that the laptop was shipped with 4GB of RAM and I would like to be able to use all of it.

Has anyone else had any luck with this problem?

Going to bump this again... dell seemingly now supports vista 64, so I may come gripe to them.

ok I have the software and drivers installed the webcam center works and it work with IM's but I get an error everytime it starts up video effects unable to start reinstall the advanced video FX engine. I close that and get rundll32 stopped working and the console will not open. I have uninstalled and reinstalled many times and no luck. acts like it don't like running under the program files (x86) folder or something all the avatar work but won't start the video FX either and running the fx straight from the folder does nothing. anyone having any luck getting the video FX to work in vista 64

I have an Inspiron 1420 which I recently updated to Windows 7 64-bit. Ive installed the audio and mic drivers from Dell (that say they support 64-bit) as well as the Webcam Manager for Inspiron 1420. While the webcam and sound work find and the Dell Webcam Manager installed fine, I am having a few issues:

When using Skype, the mic cuts out all the time unless I uncheck to have Skype automatically adjust mic in the options menu.... but then background noise becomes a problem.

Dell Webcam Manger is missing the "audio effects" tab even though it said installing Advanced Audio FX engine during setup. I have uninstalled and reinstalled multiple times yet the audio effects is still missing (it was there under Vista 32 bit).

Also I have a Creative branded integrated webcam.

Has anyone else had similar issues?
