I'm not sure what is going on, but I think my cooling fan may have broke inside my m1530. A couple months ago, I was having many heating issues that I diagnosed as just the poor thermal pad application from the factory. So I undervolted my CPU and applied arctic silver 5 to the heatsink. Everything was well at first, but in the past few weeks my comp has started running really hot again.
It will idle around 45-50 C, which is pretty good and much better than before the thermal pad change. However, under load (especially graphical) the temps go up to 90 again now. When I feel the comp, it is extra hot and I flip it over and can't really hear or feel the fan blowing. It sounds like it might be running really low, but I can't be sure.
Is there any program or any other way I can test to see if my fan is out? Or is there something else going on?Thanks.

if you cant hear or feel the fan going, then the fan IS the problem, i would call dell and tell them, they will replace yor fan and heatsink.
one thing you could try and do is to blow compressed air through the vents and fan, you cant imagine how much dust piles up in there in just a matter of weeks...

First thing - I'd check the fan for dust.
I've had mine for about 6/7 months and recently the temps have started to increase on my laptop. Went from a previous mid 60 ish at full load (overclocked) to a now nearly 80 after only a few minutes of gaming.
So obviously I was a bit worried.
Thus I decided earlier to clean the heatsink and apply as5 to hopefully lower my temps. I was shocked at now much dust build-up there was (plumes of dust blew out of it!!)
I cleaned it out, applied as5 and immeadiatly my temps dropped by about 12 degrees. So giving it a quick clean is well worth it. -
my fan turns off after being on for 3 or more days, i chatted with dell and they are going to replace my motherboard, fan, and graphics card, (im on the waranty still btw)

i hope everything goes well with the replacement! -
yea i did the AS5 thing back in december, i can try blowing out the fan. How hard should it be blowing? Should it be obviously noticeable?
If i have to get stuff changed out under warranty, will i keep my HD data and settings? -

To clean it, I took the heatsink assembly out of the laptop (obviously don't the dust to be going back into the laptop) and by using a light at one side of the grills and looking through from the other side, you can see where all the dust is in between the grills.
There was a lot in mine! I just blew air through it untill I could see it was clear. Though be careful where you do this - dust ends up everywhere!
