i have the seagate 7k320, and im wondering how loud are these things supposed to be, the first one i got from dell failed so i just got my replacement but i always had the feeling that laptop drives are supposed to be nearly dead silent, but i can hear the occasional clicking noise but the most common noise i guess would be a slight scratching/grinding noise. Its not always there, and its not that loud but in a dead silent room it's definitely noticeable and it is common for me to hear it during general usage, is this normal or should i request another replacement drive.

Check the BIOS setting. Try setting it to Performance. A lot of people have reported this setting actually quiets some noisy hard drives... Worth a try.
