I'm having a few system/software problems with my m1530, and I'm considering a factory restore, since it worked just fine when I got it from Dell, and I'm pretty sure I installed something that caused my problems.

I haven't had the computer THAT long, so I was going to transfer all my pictures, music, documents, downloads, etc. onto an external hard drive, and then use the CDs/DVDs that came with the laptop to reset the computer to its factory-issued glory *smirk*

    Questions:
are there any other files I should backup or copy to my external hard drive? I'm mostly concerned about losing files that I can't recreate (which is why I'm backing up pictures and music)... but I also want to make sure that my subscription to McAfee and lojack for laptops still work...

What's the easiest way to reset to the factory-issued settings - I read somewhere about hitting F11 while the computer's starting up... ack. I'm just slightly irked and scared about all this, and I appreciate any tips y'all have.

You can use your restore partition or the restore CD. The restore partition will set it up to the factory image so you won't have to mess with anything. The restore CD is good if you wanted to remove the restore partition and have a completely clean install.
