My m1530 with Vista reboots / restarts unexpectedly sometimes when I suspend it. First I thought it was daemon tools fault, and I switched to MagicDisc but still had problems. I removed both applications and the problem seemed to go away but it came back roughly when I installed Nokia PC Tools software to sync my mobile so I thought it was causing it again. I removed it and am testing without it now.

I don't know when it's going to happen. Sometimes it works and others not, it's unbearable.

So I think it could be a software compatibility issue with Vista but then I think many of you would have the same problem? Has this happened to you? Do you have any of these applications installed with no problems?

I think many people get it this. I tend to get it if I have changed the video driver to one that can be used for O/C. As soon as I change back to the default, the problem goes away.

Well, that's sort of relieving. I hope this thread catches more cases so we can find a solution.

I'm thinking if we confirmed that some apps cause this problem, to compile a list of them. So far I've seen

    Daemon Tools
    MagicDisc
    Nokia PC Suite

Seem to be causing it, though I'm not really sure it's the applications that make the laptop reboot.

It is not an application problem. the problem might be with Dell recommended power setup. if you go to the lid section in power settings. you will just simply change the settings for the lid (sleep, hibernate, do nothing), apply them and change them back to the once you wish. that's it. after all it should work perfectly.

I'm not sure about those power options because when I manually hit suspend from the start menu it reboots, and there's an error logged in the event log saying that the last suspend operation was not successful.

I ran some tests and found out the hard drive is faulty. Dell is going to replace it but they say it'll take at least 48h for them to even arrange an appointment to replace it so I purchased a bigger one and am installing Vista now.

If the problem goes away with the new HD then it was the drive's fault I guess.

Will report back. Thanks for your help.

Well. A new hard drive didn't solve the issue, that's for sure.

    I don't get it.
It seems like if I use msconfig to start without any programs at start up it suspends just fine, but when I selectively re-enable some of them it seems one program is the culprit then another.

Why nobody else is complaining of this? This is a major problem! Is it only me? Is my laptop faulty?

I have the same problem with my M1530 running Vista x64. Most of the time it sleeps when I tell it to, but sometimes it reboots. Like this morning for instance. It did it twice in a row, in fact. Which is a bit nerve racking because if I tell it to sleep, then put it in my bag, I really don't want it rebooting & overheating in my bag. I've just been careful to watch that it really sleeps, but it isn't exactly confidence-inspiring...

There are a couple of threads about this. I had the same problems. As far as I could tell and from what others said, it's the Dell wireless card. If you have one made by Dell, disable it and see if it fixes the situation. I just had mine replaced today with an Intel card. I'll report back if that doesn't fix things.

That's interesting. I'll give it a try. So far it seems running software has something to do.
I've had no problems today just after I disabled DAEMON tools.
It shouldn't be a problem though.

Almost confirmed now. Turning off the Dell Wireless card via the hard switch on the side of the laptop previous to hibernation fixes the problem.

This problem just started happening for me as well, and Dell's CS wasn't particularly helpful about it. I just did what the folks at dellcommunity.com forums did with their Inspiron 1525's which had a similar or identical problem.. uncheck the box labeled something like "allow the computer to disable this device to save power" for the Dell wireless card in the properties for it in i believe the device manager. Tedious but it gets the job done.. supposedly at the expense of a bit of battery life though. Whatever, I don't want to disable the wifi every single time >_<

Why wouldn't you leave it disabled? I don't think it makes a difference at all.

Try installing the 175.97 video drivers released for the m1330
It worked for me about a month ago and I haven't had the issue since.
