    Hi,

I'm trying to get my fingerprint reader working in Windows 7 Pro x64 on my m1530. I've tried everything from installing the upek ToushStrip USB drivers (version 2.6 from dell's support center and 2.18 from upek's site) and have tried both the Fingerprint Reader Suite 5.6 and the Protector Suite 2009 software. Each time, windows cannot detect any biometric device, and there is no device listed in the device manager.

Any suggestions from those who have their reader working on the m1530 in windows 7?

    Thanks

Honestly it sounds like a hardware problem.

There are fingerprint reader drivers for Windows 7 on Windows Update, you don't actually need to install anything. So if it's not showing up straight away then I would say it isn't working

You dont need to download drivers Win7 will install said drivers if it detects the hardware. Even so the Vista driver do work.

    Thanks for all the help!

The reader was working a while back in vista, but I had my mobo replaced and haven't used it at all since then. Maybe the technician messed it up somehow. Would it be too difficult to take it apart myself and find out, or should I just contact dell?

Are you still under warranty? If so I would let Dell do it

Its quite easy to do but I say go to the download page for your unit and download the service manual and have a good read of it. Sounds link the Tec left out the connection for your FP scanner.
Here is the UK link for you http://support.euro.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/xpsM1530/en/SM/index.htm
If you find it all to much yes call up the help deck and let them know your scan has not worked since the Tec replaced you mobo..

    Hello,

I have a similar issue also in Windows 7 Pro x64 on my M1330. I've tried with Dell's, Win7 and UPEK's drivers and have only tried the Fingerprint Reader Suite 5.6 (since Protector Suite 2009 is trial unless you want to pay...).

Windows does detect my reader on the device manager but Fingerprint Reader Suite (FRS) doesn't.

I could use windows logon, but I want FRS instead to use password bank which is not offered in win7.

    Any suggestions?

Have you tried using the protector suite? It detected my reader.

Although some features are disabled unless you want to pay, I still find the protector suite very useful (there is a limited version of the password bank that works well enough for me.) I also don't think the trial version expires.

Out of interest. What is the latest version of the Dell/UPEK fingerprint software. All I can find for x64 OS is 5.6.2.3705 dated 21/10/2008? I appreciate you can download a much newer version fro UPEK but for similar features you need to pay/register the software.

Same version (5.6.2.3705) according to dell's support center.

    Use the UPEK driver:
    1.2.0.198
    9/22/2009
TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode)

BTW, to upgrade your UPEK software to the new full version is only $15 US.

Yes you definitely want to use the 2.18 driver package available from UPEK directly

    http://www.upek.com/support/downloads/drivers/windows.asp

From the screenshot on the previous page it looks like you have the Winbio driver package 1.3.0 installed.

    http://www.upek.com/support/downloads/drivers/windows7.asp

My M1330 is running Windows 7 x64 and I installed the Dell fingerprint application and the 2.18 driver package, which does improve fingerprint reading abilities. This set up works perfectly.

I would suggest you try uninstalling all fingerprint software / drivers and check that device manager is showing the device as not properly installed (if it is still there then manually uninstall it). Reboot your machine and then install the software again. Hopefully it will work ok.

@smjohns: I used the combination you suggested and it works great! The only thing I miss is the FileSafe under My Computer...

Oh, another thing: I changed Biometrics to off on Win7's Control Panel. I was having 3 icons to logon (my username, fingerprint suite and windows biometrics).

    Thanks again for the solution!

How do I get the Win 7 64-bit application for the M1530? I tried downloading it twice (the Vista 64-bit version) from the Dell website, but it keeps on saying it's the 32-bit version when I try and install it

EDIT: Nevermind - I grabbed the version for the M1330, and that's the correct one (when I install it, it says it's for the M1330 and the M1530). So it looks like there's an incorrect link on Dell's website for the M1530.
