You should be able to upgrade to the 5300. I am not sure if the 1505 required a third antenna when Dell installed it, so you may want to check up on that, and if needed, invest in a $5 antenna to get true dual band wireless draft-N speed.

JDROM, explain how the 5300 does not work...there are people putting this card into an EEE 1000H and installing a 3rd antenna and loving it...

I made my own thread here: hxxp://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=329696 (apparently I cannot post links)

I have no idea why it doesn't work.

yea i brought up this issue a few months ago in a different thread and everyone said it works, i havent tried it yet but everyone said once you get the third antenna connected it works fine. apparently dell ties down the third antenna since its not used for that card.

I´ve recently upgraded my 4965 by 5300´s on the both 1530 and 1330 in Vista x64 and both work absolutely fine! in addition to that, the Wi-Fi led blinks when there is network activity!
    Regards from Portugal!

It seems as if someone has properly installed the card...uninstall drivers, install card, install drivers. Congrats SLPRO...I just couldn't accept that the 1530 would not take a 5300...the 4965's successor with same inputs.

The only issue I had was that the 3rd antenna, which by the Dell service manual is supposed to be gray, isn't there. I have a gray + black, white + gray, and a blue cable. None of which will reach to the 3rd antenna spot on the WiFi Link 5300. I used the black cable as the 3rd antenna and the grey + black cable as the 3rd antenna. It works fine in Ubuntu, just not Vista.

Again, going by the service manual, it seems like the white + gray and black + gray are for the WWAN card, so I guess the blue one is the one I should be using but it doesn't reach at all.

Is it possible to run a WLAN card in the WWAN labeled slot instead? That way all the antennas would be able to connect.

I don't think it matters which antennas you put on the card.

I upgraded my wireless to an atheros card, and just got my 1530 back from repair. I just put 3 random antennas into the the card (the 3 that would reach) and my wireless signal is as good as ever.

That's what I thought, and it wouldn't affect the card's ability to work in Vista. It works in Ubuntu regardless.

I have been using the 12.1.2.1 drivers which is the latest on the Intel website. I just get a Code 10 error which means the device cannot start.

Slpro, could you possibly zip these drivers up and post a link? Mediafire.com has an easy upload system and it would provide a great resource for others.

I think i´ve a solution to the problem: Instal the Intel® PROSet/Wireless WiFi Connection Utility for Windows Vista* 64-Bit ( about 29 Mb) from Intel´s website. Should work now! :)

if you already have the intel N card ( 4960 or 4965 ) then you have the 3 cables and you should be able to install the 5300 without a problem, i wanna try this myself :D

Nope that doesn't work either. Already tried it.

No matter what Intel driver I use, I always get this stupid Code 10 error in device manager.

Is there anything special you did when you installed it?

Nope, just swapped the cards and instaled driver and PROSet.
Now i don´t know what´s wrong... Have you tried in the power schemes set the wlan card to full power?
BTW, what BIOS you are using? Mine is A14.

Using the latest BIOS (A14) and the power settings is on Maximum Performance for battery and AC. I've tried uninstalling/installing many, many times. I even tried on a fresh install without installing anything else and it still gave me Code 10 error.

The eBay seller I got it from said there's some hacks that can apparently fix it but I cannot find them. He said I could return it though if I can't get it working.

Code 10 is related to IRQ issue.

IRQ sharing can cause issue.. check your system and make sure you aren´t sharing any IRQ with other or try it in the WWAN slot...

If it don´t works the better is to return it, i think...

I don't really know how I'd go about checking IRQs since there's none of that in the BIOS...

I've tried in the WWAN slot as well with the same error.

It´s not in the BIOS... You have to open Device Manager in Control Panel, right click in the 5300, select Properties and then in the tab Resources see if there is any conflict.

have you installed the Intel inf-installer for your system components (PCIe, USB, DRAM-controller etc.)?

This is the sequence of driver install I use on my M1330:

    *Windows Vista Ultimate X64
    *Intel Inf-install
*Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista
*Intel Turbo Memory w/ Matrix Storage
    *Intel WiFi driver
    *whatever remains...

Hi. It´s the normal version, there´s no WiMax here  I don´t know if it´s out.
If your 1530 have the three wires, no need for more!

My 1530 has 3 wires and the 1330 has 2, and both work just ok.

    Cheers.

so the third wire, which is signal diversification, gets used as a third Tx/Rx and you are running at "450 Mbps"? no hardware change, other than the obvious card change, and you are running at the full potential, i know not the quoted potential?

    thanks again

The quoted potential only in the 1530 with the three wires, in the the 1330 with the blue wire of UWB is almost at full. Also, big improvement in signal reception on both.

ok, just got the card and installed it, and it works fine, no problems at all, i repeat the intel 5300 card works in my m1530 vista home premium 32bit. I didnt even have to install the driver, vista installed it by itself. So there you go, by the way, does the intel wireless client gui still exist on vista, i cant seem to find it and can only use the windows client to manage my wireless.

ok so i bought both cards just in case the 5300 didnt work i would use the 4965, i had the 4965 installed first, and the wifi catcher did work, but with the 5300 the wifi catcher does not work anymore, didnt really use it anyways. Another question, how do i test my card to make sure its functioning right? when i hit view status, it show 117mbps, i am connected to the airport extreme apple n router, is that correct?

You can, but just with 2 antennas. The wifi catcher is a software that works with a button near the wifi switch to show you available networks.
