So i bought 2 blu-ray movies today in hopes of being able to play them on my new m1530 with the blu-ray drive, however when i pop it in i hear the drive attempt to read the disk, but after awhile it gives up and when i check in My Computer, the drive label's itself as empty.

Incase it matters, i reformated to xp 32bit, and my graphics card is the 8600M GT and the driver is the forceware 165.01. Im not sure, but i believe that is an older version, but im not entirely sure it would restrict the laptop from recognizing the disc.

Is the driver you are having WHQL ??? I guess u need a WHQL driver for bluray playback... you could probably try one of the newer ones from Dell.. either the 175.97 or the one before that 174.31...

Btw, are other CD/DVD working fine??? if not, it might be the drive itself having some issues...

when u download drivers from laptopvideo2go, check if they are whql signed... its there at the top of the first post... and if it doesnt work, try without the modded inf... u need whql signing for bluray playback

AFAIK, modded inf's invalidate the WHQL signing!!

ya they do, and it doesnt recognize the disc.... but even my stock drivers didnt recognize the disc in the drive, and they came straight from dell, as far as i know (it was from the how to install XP on m1530 post). I updated mediadirect, and it still wont recognize

none of the drivers that are there are compatible with my gfx card unless its a modded inf.

big edit: wow..... like 2o minutes after i updated media direct, it recognizes one of my blu-ray discs, (transporter) but not the other (xXx) so meh, maybe i gotta reboot lol
