Dump the RAM, HD, and the PC-cillin (if it's not included with the notebook/doesn't cost more aftermarket) and upgrade them yourself. RAM costs about half aftermarket when compared with what Dell gives you.

the pc-cillin came with it at no cost, the HD if i get the 60gb is about a $215 diff and the ram is a $225.
any suggestions on a good manufacturer for the ram.....i have heard about newegg so i'll probably look there -
also if i dump the hard drive i could only get a external aftermarket correct?

How long do you guys think before Dell may give the XPS M1710 a coupon to defray the hefty price? Even a 10% coupon would be enough for me to pull the trigger and buy 1
