I've had my m1710 for well over a year now without any problems, until a little over a month ago.
One day I was on the Internet and the screen went blue and I got the "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" message. I couldn't do anything, so I restarted and got the same thing again, only this time with broken, vertical lines on the screen. I could still get into safe mode and back up everything, but everything I tried wouldn't fix the problem. I popped in a disc that came with my laptop and ran a full system test. Everything passed except for the memory part of my video card. So then I went on eBay and bought a new video card and popped it in. The lines were gone and my laptop worked perfectly!
Fast-forward to today, a month later and the exact same problem happened. I mean it's not normal for a video card to die like that, is it? Could there be some kind of problem somewhere else in the laptop that causes the video card to burn out?
I would really appreciate anybody's help on this!
My specs, if it helps, are:
Core Duo 2.0 Ghz
1GB Ram
100GB 7200rpm hard drive
7900 Go GTX 512mb video card
Windows XP Media Center

It might be a cooling issue. You should monitor the temps while playing games to see if your rig is getting too hot.
-
Does it matter if it is plugged in or not?
I know that the M1710 has some serious driver issues that caused flicker on the screen over while on battery. -
Hi.
I'm interested to buy a defective graphic card. Anyone has any offer.
Thanks.

I get the problem whether it's plugged in or not.
I went into safe mode and uninstalled the video card drivers and restarted. The lines (here's an example I found on the internet: http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?act=Attach&type=post&id=5997)
were still there, but I got into windows normally. When I tried to reinstall the drivers, I got the "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" blue screen again.
So to sum everything up:
The vertical lines are always there no matter what.
I can get into safe mode fine.
When I uninstall the video card drivers, I can start windows normally, but when I reinstall them, I'm back where I started.
I'm pretty sure it's the video card, because when I ordered a new one when this happened the 1st time and popped it in, everything was back to normal. I even did a complete reformat just to make sure. -
yep, that's a video card for sure
-
Yeah, I thought so.
Does anybody know what sort of problems may cause a video card to die like that? Like I said, I was only on the Internet when it happened. It's not like I was doing any demanding tasks from my video card. -
I HAVE THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM, Dell are rubbish.. Havent tryed replacing the vid card, ddint know you could.. so what should i do? just uninstall the drivers? Iv tried updating them in safe mode and then installer says "no NVIDIA product detected"
direct x cant seem to detect any G card at all either.. Wat the..
Any Suggestions to how i can and even if i should get in working again?

I think once you get the vertical lines it's too late. -
My xps has overheated several occasions and gone to a different blue screen. This happened quite regulalrly about 1 year ago so i dismanteled it and found a LOT of dust and then i installed a temp monitoring program. I never had warnings from the program before it crashed so im not sure i was a heat issue.. ?
Any thoughts.. -
solved it, just ring XP dell support and say ur graphics card is toast and they should replace it, the warrenties on those things last for ages. If you want to run a test hold down Fn and the power button when turning it on to check all hardware. Thats how i made sure it was the G card. There you go guys!
