Hi, I have m1730 with dual 8800 gtx. Had it over a year now and have had no problems with it. Now all a sudden when I enable SLI it gives me a blue screen. The problem is with nvlddmkm.sys. I'v tried different drivers and nothing has fixed this. I googled and looked for similar problems but nobody seems to have any fixes. Also most problems I found on google are when running games. My machine won't even boot up in SLI mode with the original driver. With the newer drivers after i accept changes seems like windows is attempting to load the second card then i get the blue screen. Help is appreciated.

that is almost absolutly an issue with your nvidia drivers. i would suggest completly uninstalling yoru display drivers, use an nvidia cleaner tool to do so.

Then download the latest drivers FROM the manufacturer and test it out. if that works you can start trying newer drivers.

    Good luck!

Try new driver install and use Batboys driver installation guide. blog

If that fails you've probably joined the 8800gtx failure club.

FWIW When my system failed it was fine non Sli. Sli it was the dreaded BSOD

Uninstalled the driver and used Driver cleaner pro after start up then reinstalled the driver that is on the dell support driver site and still the same thing.

I'm looking around and i don't see any instructions. Just the driver link itself. And wow, I didn't even know dell had so many updates. On their driver page most of the drivers are still from 2007.

Is there any way to tell if my card is shot for sure? What are my options if my card is shot? My warranty was done a couple months ago.

Another thing is i notice on the nvidia configuration was that the Physx option isn't there anymore. It used to be on top of the SLI option.

    Look here

Use whatever driver Dell has on their site. If you install it correctly and still get BSOD's in Sli then that is all you need to tell it is the card that is faulty.

    Post back what happens.

Ok. I believe it to be card failure for sure. Even though you are out of warranty you should by most national laws be covered as the unit has known issues regarding it's longevity.

Now your job starts. you need to do a search of these failures. I suggest you start at NBR Here and here too

You also need to get acquainted with your consumer rights within your country. When you are on top of these issues THEN call Dell and request help with your system. When you call you need to diarise everything about your call, date, time, who you spoke to, what was said or promised, your responses, everything. Dell by all rights should at least replace the faulty card even though it is out of warrranty. They may even allow you to buy extended warranty (absolutely the BEST idea to do so if they let you), I have seen people claim they were not informed that their warranty was expired and be allowed to extend it.

Post your experience in the previous thread on 1730 faults and MOST importantly vote for a bios upgrade from Dell (see my sig'). Dealing with Dell can be heartbreaking as they try every trick in the book to make you give up but perserverence an accurate diary, staying calm and business like will yeild results. If in the end they still won't help then you have your consumer protection laws to fall back on.

    Best of luck.

So this is a known issue? I just took a quick look at the thread you gave me to look at. The thing is I'm not that good at arguing with people. I don't even know where to start. Is there any real facts about the failures or am i just going on whats being said on the forums? See I don't consider myself great with computers. I feel like I'll get owned by their techs and have no way in countering if they get technical with me. I also overclocked the cards when i played some games. Is this going to affect on how this is going to go?

It's not a very technical issue per se. Your cards don't work. Simple.

Are the cards overclocked now? If not I don't see why you would raise the issue.
