What is the difference between the 2.5 ghz penryn processor and the 2.4 ghz core 2 duo processor. Is it just longer battery life? Or is it much faster + better performance? Is it worth the 125$ upgrade?

a little bit faster some may say, but like you said the main benefits here is the positive effects on battery life and less heat output, which means a healthier laptop in the long run. :)

But you will see the gain mainly in video encoding... so if you are into that - then the Penryn's are a good bet.

ah ok. I'd probably go with the 2.4 core 2 duo - just because I can get the lappy for around 3300 with dual 8800gtx's. The penryn bumps it to around 3500.
