Hello I am getting a m17x as a replacement for my m170. My m170 would boot into windows just fine. but there were these lines all through my screen. So this guy from dell came to replace a few parts and the damn thing wouldnt even turn on. So now dell is sending me a different laptop. Can anyone tell me if this laptop is the same as my m170? I had windows xp, 2.13GHZ processor, 17 inch screen, 6800 nvidia graphics. 2 GB of ram. and a 100 gig hard drive. Here is some information i found on dells website about this replacement laptop

Pizzaman try the thread about XPS M1730 problems...some are also getting replacements and they may know
-
You're getting a much better computer. Twice the RAM, and its DDR3 1333 MHz. Faster processor (Penryn, probably 2.8 GHz dual-core). Shipping with Vista but it looks like you have a Windows 7 upgrade. 500 GB @ 7,200 RPM is way better than your old 100 GB HDD, which is probably at 5600.
Only thing that's a mystery is:
1 XWXTD MODULE,CARD,GRAPHICS,GT1,SLI
which describes your graphics card. I don't have a clue what that means in terms of a specific model, although SLI implies that it's an NVIDIA. This appears to be a brand-new 17x, so it will definitely be coming with a 200-series card, which will blow your old 6800 out of the water.
Basically, you're getting the deal of a lifetime here, you're getting a very nice $3000+ computer in replacement for a fairly old machine. Congratulations, seriously, you've made out very well for yourself.
...Dell wouldn't give me the same deal despite my 1730 (almost the same architecture as the 17x) being only a year old when their own techs broke it. -
It will be 2x as fast ...
Just ve excited now -

1 XWXTD MODULE,CARD,GRAPHICS,GT1,SLI
I think that is the 260M or the 280M in SLI -
It means 260M as thats what it said on my invoice and thats what I got
m17x replacement
