My computer is still inproduction but my invoice says mediadirect 3.5. Should I actually get 4.0 or will I get 3.5? Do you get the updates for free?

So far, I've only seen the MediaDirect 4 software shipped with the Studio line. A family member purchased the Studio 15 and MediaDirect 4 was installed.

You could try giving Customer Service a call and letting them know you want MediaDirect 4 shipped out since you have the BluRay option.

    The Part# is C817D Rev. A00 March 2008

After some more reading I found out that 4.0 runs just like an app and you have to start Vista to run it so what is the use? My build sheet has 3.5 and then also has 3.5 for Blu-ray. Does that one support the newer profiles 1.1 or 2.0? I do plan on using this as a Blu-ray player hooked up to a TV via HDMI with the lid closed using the Dell remote when away from the house so I want good Blu-ray playability. Does playing via MediaDirect make the laptop run any cooler or anything? I am hoping this thing will function just like a standalone player with media direct and the remote when the screen is closed and it is hooked up to a TV via HDMI.

Unless Cyberlink has recently uploaded a new update for MD 3.5, it wont play newer BD discs. 4.0 will. Using MD of any version will not make your laptop run any cooler or save battery life.

I would prefer MD version 4 since you convey somekevinguy that it installs lik an application, I don't like the MD boot well is about as slow as booting Windows Vista to begin with.
