i purchased my dell xps m1530 in march and at first, it was incredibly fast. everything responded so quickly. as the times passed on, my laptop got slower and slower and i can't quite figure what it is. i have a T7500 2.2 ghz Core 2 Duo along with 3 gig of ram. I have a 8600m gt graphics card and i have about 40 gb left out of 250 gb hard drive space. does anyone have an idea on how to make my computer run faster again? do i need to run virus scans? i do spyware scans frequently. do i need create more space in my hard drive? any help would be appreciated. thank you for your time.

Try disk cleanup and disk defragmenter on your system.

Also, I find CCleaner very good at cleaning registry errors.

Run AdAware to eliminate spyware, and Avast to do a virus scan.

    1) Disk Clean-up (also use more options and remove all but latest System Restore)
    2) F8 when booting, choose "Safe Mode with Command Prompt", run this command line "defrag c: -v -w" (this may take some time, but helps boot faster and less harddrive activity).

Other then that from "Run" type "msconfig" goto start-up items and uncheck things that aren't necessary.

Well, you've had your pc since around december, around same time I got mine, and yes, up to now, your PC might be sluggier...

    1. - Uninstall crap.
    2. - Disk Cleanup
    3. - (IF U WANT) delete shadow copies of System Restore
    4. - CCleaner (for registry errors that make the system go slower n ***-ish)
    5. - Disk Defrag.

    Hope it helps :)
