I think I know what you mean. The program icon or thumbnail takes longer to load than expected for such a powerful laptop. I notice this when opening a folder of pictures, or opening the "Add or Remove Programs."

My XPS 1645 is MUCH more powerful than my old Lenovo Thinkpad, but the Thinkpad dominates the Dell (more than twice as fast) for loading program icons and thumbnails. I'll post the specs to show how much more powerful I mean. Both laptops have all the Superfetching, Prefetching, and other default Windows 7 features enabled.

    XPS 1645: i7 720QM, 4GB 1333MHz, Mobility 4670, 500GB 7200rpm, Win 7 Pro x64

    Thinkpad T61p: 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB 800MHz memory (or slower), Quadro 570m, 100GB 7200rpm, Win7 Pro x32

Is the 4670 to blame for this?

I agree, the tiny icons take a long time as well.

I guess resolution could matter a little bit too. I have 1920x1080 on my Dell and 1680x1050 on my Thinkpad.

However, for me there was never a speed change, it was always this way for me. What kind of speeds are you experiencing anyway? How many seconds to load how many icons?

Mine was always this way (installed my own copy of Windows on day 1). Lets say it takes 3 seconds to load 75 different icons on my Thinkpad, it may take 6-8 seconds to load on my Dell.

    In that case
    1.defrag your system
2.stop/disable program from stat up which don't need to start right away or un needed apps.
