Hi Guys,
Apparently nVidia has decided to come out with Notebook drivers, and here is the first release out.

I would like to see if Nvidia's drivers can outdo Dox's drivers. Would be very surprising if the corporation who designed the hardware couldnt make better drivers for it than an individual doing it privately.
Benchmarks will tell -
Yeah, I wonder when the benchmarks will be out.
I mean comparing nVidia's 179.28 to say Dox's 180.84/180.70
Anyhow, it's a step in the right direction from nVidia -
I've never tried Dox drivers, but these seem to blow the Dell released drivers out of the water in 3dmark (temps seem to be higher than ever before though, but still in safe range)
-
I'm downloading the Vista x64 drivers now. then the xp drivers, (Dual-boot). I almost had a heart attack when I saw the size of the vista drivers thought! 140MB. Thank god, they had fast servers, I don't think I could stand waiting an hour for it to download. (6Mb/s is nice, supost to be 5Mb/s but, it's been running a little bit above 6 witch is nice, it took 3 minutes and 21 secs to download it xD)
Edit: my 3Dmark went down, (Not by alot, 10 points but still!) -
it really bothers me that the dell driver is about 50MB while the offical Nvidia driver for 32bit is 123MB... Something is missing somewhere!

He he
Mine took 13 seconds!
I'm gonna benchmark it now, hopefully it should do pretty well. -
hmm... seems too early for applauses. m1330 (at least XP sp3) shows some weird issues with just released NV laptop drivers. The fan endless spins like crazy for 3-5 second then comes back to normal for 3-5 sec, then again starts from the beginning. I'm back to modded drivers for now.
-
curious to see how your tests come back. Keep us posted guys
-
Trying them out... I personally don't like the 180.xx drivers. They seem to crash your system when coming out of sleep.
-
-
I have a 8400m GT and a 8600m GT but it says I'm not supported. So where are the modded infs!
-
179.28 performance is same as 178.24 (my favourite) and slightly lower than 180.84.
But 180 series has a lot bugs (sleep problem and artifacts) and I think it is not optimized for 8 series card. -
wow i hope it works well..... and interesting how they refer to the dell bios revision 12.... maybe something still going on with the faulty nvidia cards xD? who knows such a things..... only the oracle! feedback please! anyone who tried this drivers! i'll let u know how it goes for me....
-
i read that 179.xx suppose to fix black box icon so i'll give it a go =)
-
Any comparisons to 180.84? 180.84's been the best for me so far whereas 178.24 was sluggish.
-
ok..... same performance i could say.... maybe lower temperature... and perfectly overclockeable with rivatuner! im comparing with 179.14
-
Lower temperature is always good. I'll try l4d and see if it stutters with multi-core.

I've tried it on a few games - havn't noticed anything framerate wise, The only difference I've seen is that I got 5700 3dmark06 score, which is a lil bit of a dip from my usual, but synthetic benchmark score diffences of that small a magnitude don't really mean anything anyway.
I'll probably revert back to 180.48 (I've never had any issues with the 180 series) -
CS:S:
151 fps 180.84.1 dox
147 fps 179.28
3dMark2006:
5319 180.84.1
5306 179.28
Max Temp: 82C, a reduction from 84C with 180.84 -
yo mama's favorite, i'm just wondering how you oced yoru card to 783, rivatuner only allows you to go up to 715
-
yomamasfavourite Notebook Evangelist
You've to change the registry settings in rivatuner.
Though you should check if your card will handle 715Mhz comfortably first. -
Based on the opinions of those who have downloaded it already, do you guys recommend I download the drivers? So far, I haven't seen any comments on significant improvements in framerates, just slightly lower temps. Should I just stick with what I have now (I mean I'm not having any problems w/ any games or anything, and really don't intend to overclock my system)...
And by the way, what is rivatuner? Sorry, I'm really quite new to all this driver update stuff... The only thing I have updated on my 8600M GT is a Display software update released in September... -

It depends on what the current drivers you have installed are. I had the 180.48 drivers installed (probably one of the best sets around) so comparing to them I saw little difference.
If you have an older driver set installed then its possible you might see a big difference in performance.
Bty Rivatuner is a free over-clocking software tool, quite usefull given how easily the 8600 overclocks. -

-Right click on the desktop
-click 'Nvidia contol panel'
-click the help tab
-click system information
a window should come up telling you what driver you have
BTY if there is no 'Nvidia control panel' option when you right click the destop (its possible - you can turn it on and off) then instead
-click the start menu
-click control panel
-click Nvidia control panel
then as above
-click the help tab
-click system information -
I just joined this forum after repalcing an HP with the XPS M1530. I happened to look at NVIDIA for drivers to see the latest before heading over to "laptop-2-go". To say I was suprised to see 8M series is an understatment. Anways, I just wanted to point out that the eVGA Precision utility also works with the card. I use Rivatuner for fan profiles. But Precision is much easier to use on-the-fly.

Yo guyz, I have the 177.79 drivers and never updated. I'm curious, should I update and wich driver should I use? I have a XPS1530- 8600mgt gddr3.. I'm confused...
-
These drivers are great. It's stable, and performs well. Not as well as 180.84, but without serious artifacting dangers.
-
-
i can not for the life of me overclockw ith these drivers

This is the first video driver after testing dozens which is stable after standby / hibernate (Win XP 32)
Regards, Rolf -
How are temps with these drivers? Thanks very much
-
I just installed and tested them, low temp now seems to be 60, normal idle temp is 68. Max temp is 76 running RTHDRIBL 1.2, does anyone have any input or another good GPU stress tester?
-
On my side it now alows me to overclock (i'm at 675/1425/465)! I had to use 169.04 in the past. Here's the changes:
before: stock 3511, OCed 4378
Now: stock 3682, OCed 4518 -
I see some people are able to overclock their m1530, isnt it that the newer bios versions dont allow overclocking anymore? If it does, how do you guys do overclock even with the bios block?
-
- Any news / updates on the issue above?
- Anyone with XP Pro SP3 on an M1330 that has upgraded to these new drivers? Any feedback?
Thanks very much. -
would i see improvement if i upgrade from my 176.25 drivers (sager laptop)?
-
176.44 (dell shipped)
179.28
185.20
?
I just want a good driver, mostly working with adobe cs4 programs: illustrating, drawing, painting, and animation. -
yomamasfavourite Notebook Evangelist
Given that you use adobe and do animation and the like. I'd imagine that stability and having things display correctly would be very important to you, right?
If that's the case, then I'd say to stick with the current 176.44 driver, or if you need a bit of a performance boost to try the 179.28 driver.
The problem with 180 series drivers is that they're really only meant for desktops, they're merely modded to work on laptops. So things only laptops have, often won't work (like sleep functions) plus there's often one or two bugs in certain applications. -
179.28 has the best performance and reliability at the moment.
-
The 185 driver supports the laptop graphic card though, right? So it doesn't need the modded inf file?
-
I know this thread may be dead, but I just installed the 179.28 driver and now my screen won't change brightness...I could rollback, but I would like to keep it or upgrade to Dox's drivers maybe?
