Hey guys, i've had my M1730 for almost 2 years now
i've had to replace the battery after the initial 12 month warranty ran out, now im having major heating issues and i've been told the mainboard needs to be replaced and it will cost me (since its not in warranty anymore) roughly £300 ($650)
should I go ahead and get Dell to do the work?
or should I do something different?
Any advice appreciated![]()

What heating issues are you having? Is it the processor, the GPU, the battery, what?
There may be a plethora of things you could do before sending it back to Dell.
If it's your CPU, try undervolting (search these forums). You should also clean out the vents of your machine (use some canned air). Finally you could also re-apply some thermal paste. It wouldn't hurt to put some of the thermal paste on your GPU either. -
Not sure how a motherboard itself can cause heating issues. Were you given a reason why the motherboard needed to be replaced?
Post back your specs (CPU, GPU, OS) as well as a description of the heating issues (including temps observed using HWMonitor) and we'll try to give you a hand with it. -
I made this thread a while back:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=390680
I have used compressed air several times, I no longer run dual SLI due to the heat and fans running constantly
they said the mobo replacement includes everything (GPU,CPU etc)
thanks
