Dell has a great deal on XPS M1530 for about $1399 (after about 600 discount) and im pretty sure everyone knows about it. It has T7500 Intel Processor, 3 GB Ram and, also a 8600M GT. I was wondering if i was able to call Dell and downgrade the 3 GB Ram and T7500 option to make the final price closer to $1000. is that possible? if it is, would someone give me the steps to how to do it? your help will be greatly appreciated.

*sorry if i posted this on the wrong forum, but i didn't know where to post.

sweet talking is a innate ability. There are no scripts to teach you how to negotiate a deal. As for what you need to do. Just place a order and then talk to them on the phone. The phone number depends on how you ordered.

You might consider teaming up with someone, have the first caller be brusque and slightly irate (but not asking for discounts), and then hand off the phone to have the second, younger sounding caller sweet talk them. It would be an interesting experiment to carry out.

    Hahahaha.....that's gold :)

I think that the police use that method when interviewing suspects.

It's called the "Good Cop/Bad Cop" method.

I had a similar situation happen without really expecting it to come up. I'd gotten frustrated with Dell CSR's a few days previous, so I had someone else try and get my machine's specs changed for me, and that person got really worked up because it was difficult to communicate to the Dell rep, who had a bit of an accent. After a few minutes of communicating ineffectively in which voices were raised, I took the call, upgraded my screen resolution (WXGA -> WSXGA+) "Yes sir, the display pixel resolution is...1680 by 1050", and the price of the system dropped by 20$. I thought, wow, that was really sweet. Turned out that the guy changed the resolution to WXGA+ only, so I had to call them up again, and this time they did charge me the 50$ to jump from 1440x900 to 1680x1050, but still, saved 50$.

It pays off to be polite sometimes.
