as they are getting released tomorrow and in still in my 28 day refund time(it is in the uk isnt it?)
i was thinking of returning It and getting the new laptops.
few questions:
when will dell get them?
is the processor going to be the new Montevina ones so they are faster?
will there be new graphics cards right away?
and will there be new 800mhz ram right away?
i really wantthe new ram and graphics card as 8600 and the 667 ram are getting old
thanks, owais
-
I seriously doubt that you'd get them updates from Dell asap mate...
Sorry to disapoint.
Tolkannn. -
yea i agree, also, i know the hp dv5t is soon to be out, with a new 9series gpu, but the ddr3 ram won't be available. i know (as a rumor) that the m860tu will feature ddr3 ram at 1066 mhz!!! but i don't know exactly when it will start shipping. there were complications with the 9800m gtx gpus but maybe they'll still have the 8800m gtx... look out for it, on the sager website, and others like xoticpc, eurocom, etc
gluck -
how much will the hp cost in the uk?
also, the dell rep just told me i only have 7 days to return, are they just liarsabout everything because i found this too:
Dell will accept returns of software, peripherals and accessories products for any reason within 30 days of invoice date subject to the terms and conditions below. This does not affect customers' statutory rights.
Dell will not refund any original shipping charges associated with returned items, other than for defective merchandise. Dell will arrange for the collection of the goods to be returned and arrange for the delivery of the replacement products if any. -
You really can't get a true answer to the first question, but my guess is that in the first couple weeks (if not right after the montevina release) after tmr they will release a new line of XPS laptops due to the fact that they are discounting their current line so much.
The new Montevina is suppose to be a little fast and a lot better on battery life, plus with new processors comes the new 9XXX graphic cards (which is why I am waiting to buy a laptop).
I think that pretty much 800mhz is the basic ram speed for the upcoming laptops. There might be a few running at 667mhz, but from what I have seen, 800mhz is where it starts! -
ok, well i seriously want to return my laptop now because iv seen many reasons.
can i retun? the dell rep said 7 days in the uk but i found this from the uk site:
Returns
Dell will accept returns of software, peripherals and accessories products for any reason within 30 days of invoice date subject to the terms and conditions below. This does not affect customers' statutory rights.

Call them up and ask, and if they tell you that you can't, then take that and read it to them and tell them that you found it on their site. They cannot refuse you a refund if that is posted on their site and if it is under 30 days or else they could have legal action taken against them because they are not supporting what is on their site.

Theres also the XPS 25% discount coupon available in the US, but then I'd rather wait for the montevina than buying a piece now which is gna be outdated in a few days! Maybe Dell flashes more coupons in a couple of months... I'll wait n watch.

my new m1330 comes tuesday, but i'll be keeping an eye on any new xps replacing m1330.....30 days(or 21?) return period.... btu i need my laptop by end-august.... decisions....
-
i think hp are better at the moment, they already displayed the new laptops on the site(avalible tomorrow?)
and in the uk there is 10% too.
better battery, 9600mgt new graphics card and 800mhz ram. -
-
-
but hey there's absolutely nothing wrong with the m1530, it has phenominal reviews from various sources, so if you can't return it, be grateful you didnt get an inspiron, xps, in my opinion, is really a professional laptop.
plus, the new montevina will certainly have bugs, so you'd have to wait longer to get the stable montevina laptops.
*i don't want to take sides, but give you a ying/yang picture* -
If you want/need a computer now, just get it. Montevina won't bring much difference to the XPS line. Montevina itself has a little more efficient processor (the TDP is different but it is the same 45nm process as all Penryn's and your laptop is idle most of the time so you won't notice much difference).
-
Sony will most likely unveil their Montevina laptops tomorrow. I hope Dell follows suit and shows us what they have this upcoming week.
-
I can't wait for the release and to see how it all *flows* for everyone.
Still, you should do what you want with your laptop situation. If you want it now then return & get a new one.
Or, wait and get the Montevina...Sound's like that is what you want, anyways.
Technology is changing every day, at a heart beat...
Good luck!

some1 mentioned about the 25% off dell coupon. heres my question. The ones i find it here, can i use it on the Australian Dell Website? Or is it a US only thing?

US only thing, unfortunately

Otherwise I'm gonna get the 1330.
Btw, where are these 25% coupons I'm hearing about? Is it an ebay thing or is there a public coupon somewhere? -

Here's a crazy thought - Dell will just put the new motherboard and processors on the existing chassis for the M1530 and M1330. Since the Montevina platform is expected to be 25% smaller, it should definitely fit!
It might allow for better ventilation inside the laptop. I don't know, I'm just grasping at straws right now since there is absolutely no information on what's happening with the XPS line. Almost all recent Dell refreshes/new laptops have been leaked weeks in advance.

na, Dell EPP deal is way better, but u need to be a college student/employee of company participating

@ElectricTool... but Dell'll 'refresh' the system, offering much more, since the new chasis offers higher speed ram, possibly better processor -
@paper_wastage: Of course! Even if they do keep the chassis as it is, Montevina should bring in DDR3 RAM, new Intel wireless, and hopefully, the GeForce 9M series and a backlit keyboard.
-
Montevina won't bring anything mindblowing. Refreshed CPU, no big speed difference, architectural difference or even battery life (the TDP is not a good measure of battery life since majority of time will be idle).
Higher speed DDR3 memory means costlier and not much difference in speed either, just like when DDR2 first came out. Maybe in half a year when prices drop. Intel has been having problems with wireless and integrated graphics and will be delayed at least another month.
Backlit keyboards are not much of an innovation, I prefer something similar to a ThinkLight - more practical and better for your battery. GF9, that depends on nVidia, not Intel, and with current problems... I think nVidia might delay in order to make sure something like what happened to the 8M series doesn't happen. -
Well you will get a good indication of when Dell will up refreshed/releasing the new XPS notebooks, when Dell places Montevina in the Studio line. If it takes ages to see Montevina in the Studio line, you can bet it will even take longer for XPS to see it.
I agree though. We should have seen a leakage by now. Either Dell hasn't got anything planned or they are being incredibly secretive. -
but i mean is it possible to keep such as big secret in a big company? Surely one of the employees working on it would have told his friend or family or wateva and then passed on. I mean theres a chance the XPS lines or Studio lines will not be refreshed at all. U never know.

Studio line was NOT designed for Montevina. Dell may have planned for it to be Montevina, but obviously due to the delay and the impending back-to-school period, they had release something.
Obviously they wont want to shell out the XPS line before Montevina, so they decided to shove out the Studio line so people have something to be hyped about before school. Besides its cheaper for Dell anyways just because the tech in it will become replaced with Montevina in August.
Chances are, we'll prolly see XPS laptops with Montevina first, then later on Studio will move up with Montevina, then finally the standard Inspiron lines. -
Do you guys think I should wait? I was going to buy an XPS 1530 with these specs: T8300, 8600GT, 4 gigs of RAM, 250 GB hard drive, 4 year warranty (Parts, Labor, Accidents, and Theft) all for $1268. To be honest, I would have settled for a Merom family processor like the T5550 until I found this deal. I don't want to pay anymore for a Montevina processor, but I'm afraid I'll get less for my money than I am now.
My parents were going to order a laptop of my choosing as a graduation/birthday gift, and my birthday is on the 7th of August so I'd kind of like this soon... -
For that configuration you WILL most definitely have to pay close or more than $2000. My advice, buy it now, skip over Montevina and wait a year until Calpella comes out to consider upgrading.
-
It will probably turn out more expensive to get a lower config montevina than a top spec M1530 now. Bearing that in mind - you performance gains will be minimal.
Plus I m thinking that there is at least a 2 month wait until you can physically get your grubby mitts on a montevina XPS lol! -
Considering Sony Vaio is coming out later tonight... I think it puts some pressure on Dell to get them out sooner.
They will probably come out with the 15 incher first or 13.3 incher, then followed by the 17 incher in a later month. -
Hmm ... thats interesting as even HP is planning to roll out their montevina based machines. Dell better churn out those snappy Centrino 2 based XPS's soon.
-
Dell most definitely not want to give HP the chance of rolling out before them, which they most likely wont since Dell is getting shipments of Montevina before HP does.
-
Does anyone has current news about montevina??
-
Nope, my mistake, no updates yet
-
i am giving my laptop back and getting a computer instead as i have no need for a laptop.
il get a vostro 410 for £700.
