I am the owner of Dell XPS 1330
I would like to change my OEM version of Windows Vista Home Premium to Vista Business that I got from my University. I have 2 DVD discs, one with 32bit and second with 64bit version.
The problem is that the new system crashes, just after the installation, when it’s booting up. I was trying to install both versions (clean installation after formatting of HDD). Every time I had the blue screen during booting up. On the other hand when I install the OEM version of Vista (that I got with my computer) there is no such problem.
What is interesting that the DVD discs that I got from my university work perfectly on other computers - systems install and run without any problems.
It seems that there is something in BIOS/hardware of XPS1330 that prevents me from proper installation of other version of Windows then originally delivered OEM. Please help me to solve this problem.

Extract the drivers to a folder and place the drivers on a USB or CD-ROM disk, then during the Vista installation, when you select the partition to install Vista on, there's an option to load a third-party driver, select this, then select the folder with the driver (either 32-bit or 64-bit) on the USB or CD-ROM disk and install the driver. Then proceed with Vista installation.
The problem is due to Vista not loading an appropriate AHCI driver for your disk-controller. This problem is present on 64-bit version of Vista at least. I am not sure about 32-bit, but I would suspect the problem is present there too.
Alternatively, if you have 4GB of memory installed on your computer, take out one of the memory chips during installation, so you only have 2GB installed, and do not install the remaining 2GB until Vista SP1 is installed on your system.
Good luck.
Rep much appriciated. -
