they will replace it with the new dell xps 14 (L401x)
The design is quite not the same but i just want to know if i should take the replacement, any reviews links....my 1645 had massive overheatm throttling and rebooting on its own every 30 mins issues lol..

    thanks guys for your opinions..

Unless you specifically want a small laptop, the XPS14 is a significant step down hardware wise compared to the SXPS 16.

That's weird that the replacement is the XPS 14. Did you specifically ask for an XPS 14? When I was offered a *replacement (11/24/2010) for my SXPS 1645 I was fist told that my only option was an XPS 17, I refused it. I later emailed corporate and they were able to configure a XPS 15 as a replacement. I believe the XPS 15 is the most suitable replacement for the SXPS 1645.

*I was also having issues with overheating problems

    the sxps 16 had a 17 720 and xps 14 has a i7 740..
the sxps 16 had a ati mobility radeon hd 5730 1gb, the xps 14 has a Geforece GT 425m 2 GB

i think it looks fair or better, i don't know i just didnt want a 17 inch laptop.

both machines have 8 gb of ram

    * i think the video card might be the only difference, not sure which one is better
    * speakers have jbl so i think thats a step up with processor and video

The 425 is a very large step down from the 5730, even the 435 is a slight downgrade, though at least the 435 is close. The only GPU that's better is the 445 on the XPS 17. If you don't want a 17" (I wouldn't either) then at least ask for a XPS 15 w/ i7 + 435
