    Hello all

I was having issues with duplicating my display on the tv using an HDMI. After a lot of back and forth with the dell tech team, they called me and informed that the core i5 processor is not capable of cloning the display through an HDMI. It can only do it wirelessly.
So anyone of you who will be using the laptop for HDMI purpose, please order i7 processor.

Also, a question for people with i5 processors on l501x, have you ever tried connecting your laptop to tv through HDMI? do you see exactly the same thing on both the laptop and the TV? Please let me know.

Please also suggest me as to what should I do now, HDMI is my main purpose.

    Thank you

    Thank you

I just experimented with HDMI to TV last night and can confirm that "Duplicate" does not work. At first I thought it was a resolution problem, but that's not it.

When I press Fn+F1, "Projector only" (which means HDMI output only) works fine and is what I usually want when connecting to a TV. Also, "Extend" seems to work, although I did not drag any windows around to confirm I could place them on the TV. (If that's a question, I can test it.) Of course, "Computer only" works.

When I look at the display modes for all but Duplicate, I see two screens shown "1" and "2". But when I select Duplicate, the first screen is labelled "1|2" and the second one is labelled "3". I don't know how to interpret that labelling.

"Duplicate" mode could be invaluable when doing a presentation. I'm surprised to find it not working.

All my tests were done using HDMI to a Sony TV. I have not tested the mini DisplayPort connection to see what modes work with it.

Thanx for looking into it. Just a question now. In what mode do you see both the screens with the same content? Also what do you see on each laptop and tv when you connect through HDMI.

Yeah it seems to be a driver issue with the way graphical tasks are handed back and forth between the integrated GPU and the discrete GPU. Let us know if the displayport has a different result.

The only mode that should show the same content on the XPS 15 screen and the HDMI TV is the "Duplicate" mode. And that mode results in a black screen on the TV.

I have not updated video drivers. The Intel integrated driver is version 8.15.10.2182. The nVidia driver is 8.17.12.5939 (as shown in Device Manager properties for the drivers).

I have not tried to lock the XPS 15 into discrete graphics mode so, in effect, all my testing has been with the Intel integrated graphics.

I don't expect to be able to test the DisplayPort soon as I don't have a mini DisplayPort cable or adapter.

How do you clone a display wirelessly? I'm not understanding what that technology might be.

I think it has to do with Intel MyWiFi technology. You need the Netgear adapter for that I guess.

You need a mini displayport adapter to VGA. Mini DVI is different.

    Hello all,

Can anyone please guide me in connecting an Epson EBW8 projector to a Dell XPS LP501x laptop?

I tried it with an HDMI cable, then through the USB port, it just does not work.

    Cheers,

    Ravi Moholkar.

Download the BIOS and video software from this link : Drivers & Downloads

After installation, also go to "windows mobility centre" on your pc and turn the additional display option on.

You should be able to achieve what you had been set out to do.

    Cheers,

    Ravi Moholkar.

No, updating the BIOS (to A04, the latest available) does not help. The "Duplicate" function still does not work. Or, more precisely, the "Duplicate" function does not duplicate the internal display to the HDMI port.

    Hello Ravi

    Thanx
