i just bought an xps 1530 and it has a 3 year warranty, in the future say like 2 years down the road if dell starts offering 9600 in the laptops in replace of 8600s and mine eventually breaks down would they put a 9600 in it if thats what they are selling at the time or would they still put in an old 8600? I obviously didnt buy it thinking i would get an updated video card down the line, but with a 3 year warranty it made me think. Im sure theyd have to replace the whole motherboard for that but would they still have 8600s around in say 2 to 2 and a half years to put in my xps?

2 years down the road, they'll give you a new/refurbished system as the 8600 and 9600 will be long obsolete and Dell will not have any to give you.

They will give you an 8600, the 1530 wont be compatible with the new cards.

theyll still have 8600s to give 2 years down the road? I was thinking more of what the first person said, they may give a refurb system that is around at that time. I know someone who had an older inspiron 1520 and there was a mishap and dell lost it and they sent him an m1530 instead of an inspiron 1525 cause his had the nvidia cards and they stopped offering them in the 1525 so idk. I would just be surprised theyd still be giving out 8600s 2 years down the road, but ur right a 9600 would be obselete by then too and yea anything at that time wouldnt be compatible with this system so it would probably have to be a refurb of a current laptop.

    8600's.

By that time you would probably have a new laptop as well :).

yea normally i would, 2 years seems to be about the longevity i keep a laptop, but with a 3 year warranty ill probably still use this too unless i sell it and its 1 year left warranty or something.
