Hopefully I will be a full fledged member of the 1530 family today or tomorrow at the latest. I have one question that 2 reps didn't have a definite answer to, they only were guessing and both had different answers. How many usb ports does it come with and what other ports does it have? DVI? HDMI? i definitely need to know the usb question but the other is just curiosity.
By the way, I ordered mine friday and I think it is amazing that it had already shipped as of yesterday. Too bad the laptop doesn't come from the same place as the peripherals I ordered, they went out this morning and are on the truck for delivery already. I have a suspicion they came from tiger direct/comp usa, because they shipped from the exact same ups facility that tiger uses. if only dell was in southern florida as well.

Nice laptop, congrats
It comes with 3 usbs, has a hdmi, vga and s-video, and a 1394 port, never used it I think its like a firewire or is (not sure) -
Advance Wishes.
There are 3 USB ports (2 on the left, 1 on the right!)...
Edit: While we are at it, let me mention that the Left, Top USB Port might be a little bit or very tight to plug in and take out, USB devices / cables.. Lot of people have reported this. So, don't try too hard when you receive it. It gets better after a while. Till then, use the other ports or if you need to use this one, plug in USB cables / devices, very gently applying a constant pressure. Don't be too hard on it.
There is also HDMI, VGA out, S-video out, etc....

I think its a bummer, given that there's only three usb's that they bunched two of them so close with the power cable.
There is plenty of space that they could have used, especially given that they included so many external display ports (who uses an s-video???) -
good question yomama, I can;t imagine making use of the s vid with the other available and I would much prefer another usb. Thanks for the replies, I can get by with 3. I am suprised they didn't put more, 3 usb's seems the bare minimum any machine should ever have. My dimension has 20 of them seemingly, I know it has 8 for sure so they could put half as many on a laptop. I guess they figure the blue tooth ability will help reduce the need for usb ports for a few devices and the camera is built in so no need for one there.
How well does the fingerprint scanner work? It seems to me that it would have to be fairly good quality or else I could imagine it would have trouble identifying fingerprints. I know nothing about fingerprint scanners, they should've skipped it and gone straight to retinal scanners. I can't wait for the day when I can go to the ATM and flash my baby blues to get out some money and reduce the need for at least one card in my wallet.
One other question, although I went with a usb card, seeing as the usb is in short supply I may look for another option. I ordered a usb air card from sprint because I didn't know and again couldn't get a dell rep to answer for sure what if any type of card bus slot there is on these laptops? pcmcia? -

I know its a 54mm express card slot, thats about the height of what I know about it, it does however double nicely as a holder for the remote.

I forgot about the remote. that will really come in handy when I don't feel like sitting forward!! lol!
I think it is a cool option that it has a remote, especially with the blu ray. so I can just hook it to a tv and use it as a blu ray player. But for the majority of the laptops life I will be close enough to it to adjust settings manually. -
There is no PCMCIA slot on the M1530 only an Express card. The adapter for this is only available from one scource and it is about $110.00. apparently computer manufacturers are going to the Express card slot instead of the PCMCIA one following Apple's lead. I have an Air Card that is PCMCIA that can not be used on my M1530. Unfortunately it is company provided so I can not just run out and get another card. Fortunately the company computer is an HP that does have the PCMCIA slot. With over 300 Air cards in use we now have to add checking for this slot when we order new computers.
