the m1730 only seems to be available with a 2.6 ghz cpu , the studio xps has the 2.8ghz , didnt they used to sell the quad core cpu's for the xps atleast ?

There is no quad core that is compatible with the XPS 1730, so no, they never sold it with a quad. The Studio XPS is Montevina, the M1730 is Santa Rosa.

hmm , what were those xtreme cpus they had a while back for them , the x9100 or something ?

X7800 and X9000 are the only two compatible Core 2 Extremes.
