Im currently having issues with my Dell XPS17 L702X, i have a LG W3000H 30" monitor that im trying to run off my laptop via a DVI-D to mini display port adapter to try get 2560x1600 res. My graphics card is Nvidia Geforce GT 555M.

Ive spoken to dell they have updated all the nvidia drivers and spoken to LG who say the monitors are plug and play so no need to update the drivers for the monitor on my laptop! (i did download the updated drivers from LG but there wasnt any software to run) link LG W3000H-BN Support: Find Manuals & Warranty Info | LG USA

With all this the max res i can get from the monitor is 1280x800, ive done some searching and all i can see is people saying about the mini diplay port adapters that have usb aswel to generate the power to run the monitor e.g.

I'm thinking this is a dual-link DVI issue. Are both ends of your adapter chain dual-link compliant?

This has been discussed before and you will need the expensive Dual-Link DVI cable as mentioned by Commander Wolf. The linked thread above takes you to the cheapest one I know of.

Regarding the low 1280x800 resolution: I'm guessing that the LG monitor does not have a built-in scaler. Therefore, it can only display multiples of 1280x800 resolution. So, your DVI cable is probably only single-link and is therefore capped at 1920x1200 resolution (which the monitor doesn't support due to lack of a scaler). Just a wild guess.

    Hope that explanation helps!

Awesome thanks for that reply, ok so the best option to try next is the dual link dvi to mini display adapter! hope this will work

Im getting no option from my nvidia control panel to customise the resolution, the graphics card is GT 555M, ive updated the new drivers etc

    Here's a screen shot:

Still the best option is to try the dual mini display port/usb connector?

My guess is that the higher res option won't show up until the correct cable is attached.
