opinions on XPS 15 (mid-tier $1,999 model) 1t bd hdd 32gb ssd hybrid drive performance

Am about to get my laptop, needed one asap, and the mid tier module was ready for fastest delivery . And off course the big questions is - - - for mid tier owner's - - - are you satisfied with the hybrid drive?

I primarily use microsoft office, a lot of web browsing, and video streaming. I may do some light (once in a blue moon) video editing in the future as well. No games, or no real super large programs to open.

So are the boot's still respectable times, and opening most of these light program's somewhat comparable to a full ssd configuration. Really have no clue, how well dell optimized or got this hybrid setup to work.

As long as it doesn't bring the laptop down - - -if it's still somewhat quick to boot/open/close things, and all the other great specs (i7,ram, quad etc...) are being fully optimized, and performing as great as they should, and are not affected by the drive config, then I won't care.

Regardless may want to upgrade the msata to around 500gb and also get the larger battery (taking out the hdd drive) when prices get even better in a half a year -or so. Still would be reassuring to hear the experience is great with the current specifications. Want to love the laptop from the start!

Also i am not tech savvy enough to complete the whole process of replacing the msata. even with full instructions wouldn't feel comfortable. If I can't get a friend to help me, would like to go to a professional. Geek squad charges like a ridiculous 200 for replacing the msata and booting. don't know if the msata could be cloned?

Is there anyone in nyc (Manhattan or Brooklyn) that would give a reasonable rate? If you have recommendation's would greatly appreciate it.

 

I've never tried one of these hybrid setups, but at $2000 I don't think you should settle for anything less than full solid state.

I just got XPS 9530 with the 512 SSD for 1380$ from ebay. The prices on the dell sites for this laptop are...quite high for the setup.

Look it up on ebay, it is full of this XPS brand new and the price difference from dell website is 500$+ . For 2000$ for a HDD...better look for MSI GS60 or GS70

 

Its 2015 already, so buying a 2000 USD laptop without SSD would be a really bad move i think. If you do not plan to install atleast 128GB SSD for Win and program files yourself, then surely do not buy the hybrid drive model. It doesnt have even half the performance of the full SSD option and you would regret it in the near future. Just get it on Ebay as suggested or give Dell a call and try to get better price than they advertise online.
