I wasn't sure if this topic warranted it's own thread, but i'll go for it anyway.

What type of temps do get when you leave your XPS on overnight?

I left it on overnight. The only proggy running was Winamp.

    Using CPUID, I got:
    51c
    72c
    76c
    87c
    47c

I don't know what I average during daily use, but I know it's less in all areas. I've yet to top 81c (GPU), even while playing COD4/Bioshock.

And now it's getting close to nighttime, and the temps remain just as high.

I would think thats quiet high for just winamp use... You may want to check your vents (was the laptop on ur bed or something???) and make sure there is nothing blocking them... and its strange because you say even with gaming you don't hit such temps... *did you read the temp' while half asleep or what??? :p :p :D*... But seriously, I think they are high.

Only recorded my GPU minimum temps but during the day it's 48 and during the night it's 46, with ambient temps being 24 and 20 respectively.

It actually peaked at 87. I checked it immediately after waking up.

It was on my desk, on the NZXT cooler.

Run Orthos for an hour (Small FFTs) to stress the CPU and check the max temp you get with it (monitor with HWMonitor). Then try Undervolting the CPU.
Similiarly, run rthdribl to stress the GPU and record the max temp.

    BTW what's CPUID ? (HWMonitor)

I'm not sure if this is related to a previous thread which had a case of overheating in standby mode when the lid was closed..

And while you are at it, I would recommend you run RTHDRIBL too... It stresses out your GPU a lot and the temp' you get would be a real nice indication of the peak' its going to hit. Would be nice if you could get Orthos / rthdribl temps back here :) :)

Ive had winamp bug out several times with cpu usage going up to 100% even after closing the program. winamp.exe stayed running and hogged all the cpu time until a ctrl-alt-del termination of the program
