Sorry about the slightly long post but I could really use your help. I'll start with the problem. Ever since I installed Windows 7, every time I try running a game that I could play just fine before installing Windows 7, such as Rome: Total War, my computer crashes when I actually start playing the game (as in I can see the map and I tell one dude to move and then the game crashes). When I say it crashes I mean that the screen turns black but the computer is still running and the fan is on and whatnot, but I am unable to make the computer do anything and I have no choice but to hold down the power button to manually shut off the computer.

The same problem also occurs when playing The Sims 3. I get to the main menu, click on the button to start the game and the neighborhood starts loading. After it loads the screen starts moving in and then the screen goes black. Sometimes it occurs earlier while the neighborhood is loading.

I use a Dell XPS M1330 with the the T8300 and the NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS wih 4 gigs of ram. I purchased the laptop about a year and a half ago and have naturally had several things replaced (thank God for the four year warranty). In case you were wondering though, I've gone through 3 motherboards, 3 LED screens, and 2 bluetooth cards.

I have tried updating my video card but this has done nothing. I have also tried turning down the games settings so that they are as basic as possible but this has not helped either.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm guessing that not a problem with Win7 but your graphic card. My HP laptop got screwed because of this 8400M GS (faulty chips). If you google, you will find plenty issues with it. What I would suggest is, if you still have warranty, you could ask for a replacement. Otherwise, try reformatting back to vista and see if that helps. All the best !

FYI, you will probably want to post this in the Gaming forum. It may get you more informed responses.

    Good Luck!
