When I'm working at home, what's the best way to preserve the battery in my XPS 1530? I can live it plugged in all the time, or I could unplug it to run it off the battery part of the time. Or can you run the 1530 with the battery removed?
Thanks in advance.

for the best longevity/performance, try not to fully discharge it. If you have it plugged in ALL the time, remove it. Otherwise, run it down to 50-60% occasionally and then recharge it.

Lithium-ion batteries can last more than two times longer if you only charge them up to 60-70% capacity. You can discharge fully without problems.
Dell laptop batteries (within the last couple of years, at least) never fully discharge. You will run out of battery, and be told that 0% charge remains, but this merely represents the lowest charge level as deigned to be safe by the control logic. Most advanced lith-ion charging circuits exhibit this feature. It stops premature total failure of the battery.
Leaving the battery in the laptop all the time when connected to AC power should not reduce its life. It will not constantly overcharge, thanks again to the control logic in place. However, lith-ion batteries hate being warm. Keeping it away from a source of heat (i.e, your laptop!) may reduce the chances of heat damage. Depends on the laptop design though. -
Thanks, and sorry for the slow reply... Think leaving the battery in the laptop while plugged in may be the best approach, and just letting it run down occasionally, assuming this won't have a terrible effect on battery life...
The advantage of the laptop staying turned on if the cable's knocked out or suchlike seems worthwhile. -
It would be nice to think that, in the even of power failure, your laptop would continue working.
I'm sorry to report that, in a recent power failure, my M1730 crashed as soon as the power failed. -
when i first used my battery and drain it....when it reach 30%, it hibernate immediately.
i check the set up of the battery and it should hibernate less thant 10% of battery capacity.
any idea why it hibernate at 30% battery capacity? -
did u check under power options and adjust it to a different what ever percentage you want it to be.
preserving XPS 1530 battery - how best to use
