    Hello,

I had a bad experience with DELL.
At the end of last year I bought a XPS M1530. At first it was ok, then it started to have a strange behaviour: sometimes it didn't want to switch on, in these cases I had to wait for the battery to empty completely and when it could switch on again, one could notice that the clock had stopped working in the meanwhile.

At a certain point I directly got the dreaded "time-of-day-clock-stopped" screen, with consequent block of the computer.
I thought I had found the solution when I changed the clock battery and computer started work again.
However, after some time the same problems appeared and at the end the same message of "time-of-day".

I was told that the problem is a slightly too high tension in some motherboard, that causes the battery clock to consume at an exceedingly fast pace.

    So I have two questions:
    1) is the situation really compromised as such? I do not really want to change the motherboard, and I do not want to have the computer block every few months either.

    2) I am looking for a replacement of this laptop. I like Dell laptops but as you can imagine I am a bit skeptical about them now. I read around that the M1530 had several problems here and there.
So I'm asking, is the Studio XPS 16 more "robust" than the 1530? or perhaps the XPS 1640?

    Thanks in advance

I'd go for the XPS rather than the Studio, but assuming you can get a better price on the 1530 and that you don't want an overkill. What do you use your current M1530 for and what would you like to do with a new laptop?

Currently I am not using my 1530 at all, after the last "time-of-day" message I haven't replaced the clock battery (as you can imagine I am quite annoyed by the whole situation).
And of course the last thing I want is a new 1530!
I'm wary about Dell in general now, but perhaps the studio xps 16 or the 1640 are more reliable... or not?

The use for my computer would be quite classic: play games (not too hardware demanding), watch movies

Ah, I got confused for a bit. I thought you were talking about the Studio 15" not the XPS M series. I'd imagine you are quite frustrated at this point and would like to have nothing to do with this model at all. Plus, what if the solution dell has to you doesn't quite fix it?

If you find the SXPS 16 at an accessible price I'd suggest you get it.

Yes, sorry for the confusion, my english... ^^

So you can assure me that the studio xps 16 is more stable than the xps 1530?

Browsing through internet I read several complains and problems of the m1530, so I suppose it is quite a fragile machine... and I want no such delicate laptops anymore!
