so i recently just got my studio xps 16 and so far i am loving it. now ive only had my laptop for about a week and i believe the invoice date is april 13th. Now my problem is that my hard drive is only 250GB which i regret getting and i was wondering if it was possible to get the 500GB upgrade?
the question is. would it be possible to call Dell and tell them that i would like to swap out the 250GB hard drive for a new 500GB hdd. i pay them they send me the 500GB HDD and i send them back the 250GB HDD. is this possible?
I really need a quick response on this since i only have like 10 days left before my invoice date expires.
thanks guys!!

i dont really get it, do you want a new hdd installed by them because you dont know how to or you want a refund for your 250gb hdd and possibly get a discounted 500gb hdd.
I think the best possibility for you is to remove your 250GB one and convert it into a external hdd using a HDD external enclosing case and buy yourself your own hdd on Newegg.
Here is some starting options. Im sure you can find how to install it on the computer and copy your old HDD to your newly bought one. I suggest this cuz im almost positive that DELL wont replace your HDD for a reasonable price. Im guessing for them to get your laptop, remove hdd, add 500gb hdd, ship it back to you, will be at least 200usd. Just buy one of those 100usd 500gb hdd from newegg and you will save much more money.
here is a list of hdd
i would suggest the 7200rpm version although its 40usd more than the 5400rpm. -
You have two options:
1) Send the laptop back to Dell get a refund and order a new laptop with the correct configuration.
2) Order a 500gb hard disk and fit it yourself and stop being a muppet.
Also l presume that when you said "i only have like 10 days left before my invoice date expires" you mean you only have 10 days left before you are able to return the laptop for a full refund.
Enjoy your purchase. -
just call dell up and tell them what you want and see what they say. You will probably still have to send it in, I don't think they would send a tech out for that.

You should really do it yourself, since Dell makes it easy (as easy as any manufacturer).
Check YouTube for tutorials on how to swap HDDs. And, since this is pretty new, you can do a clean install of Vista (it comes with the Disc) with not a lot of stuff to transfer over. (eg. no need to imaging of HDD, just reinstall Vista from disc, which walks you through the whole process). -
I think if you want to upgrade the hard drive now after purchase it for sure would be cheaper getting a 500GB from such a place like new egg or where ever.
You could probably ask someone on here who has the 500GB hard drive in their XPS 16 what make it is and which hard drive in particular they have so you know your then buying what would of gone in your system, or even ask Dell but don't tell them your buying from elsewhere.
Replacing a hard drive will take two minutes, thats what it took me the first time I did it, very easy and with the amount of tutorials anyone could do it. -
whats wrong with a 250gb 7200rpm HDD?
its as quick as a 500gb 7200rpm HDD.
you wont have filled your hdd already....
wait for ssd to get cheap and buy that -
If you do want loads of multi-media on your laptop by all means go bigger. I have 1.5TB on my desktop lol.
Solid state sounds good tho! -
the solution is to buy a external hard drive, you dont need to do anything but plug it in.
