i got an xps m1710 about 9 months ago with the standard 1 gig ram with the intent of upgrading at a later time, which will be soon

i figure newegg is probably the best place to shop for it, i still need to figure out what type i need, what brands are good, and how much i want. i need to start researching this, but for now does anyone have any suggestions?

Currently you probaly have 512 stick of ram in each of the ram slot/socket(2 slots) for a total of 1gb.Your lappy can support up to 4.0 GB but it will be expensive since you will need 2 x 2 gb sticks

    You will need a 667MHz DDR2-667 PC2-5300, 200pin SODIMM or 533MHz DDR2-533 PC2-4200, 200pin SODIMM, 1.8v

i suggest getting a 1 gb and repacing one of your 512mb with the 1gb for a total of 1.5gb or you could get 2+1gb sticks and replace both of the 512 sticks your lappy for a total of 2gb. It just depends on how much you can afford. For brands any one should be good, its just personal opinion.
