hey guys, new to the forum so would like to say hey first.
well i got a Xps 1530, when i first got it a couple of years ago, it had vista installed, slow and buggy vista, i then researched and managed to install windows xp.. worked like a charm, fast and stable. just one thing that i wasnt able to do was upon installing Xp, i wasnt able to insall the AHCI driver, so my system stayed on ATA.

after some time, i know vista has improved and would like to give vista another shot or maybe upgrade to Windows 7. but my understanding is, that vista/win7 wont work with ATA enabled. so i dont know what to do first. do i go into my bios and enable flash cash and AHCI then install vista once again.. or Install vista, then go to the bios and enable everything.

    any help is greatly appreciated.
    newbie nealios :)

You can install Vista and 7 natively under ATA or AHCI mode. I'm not sure how it'll fare if you try to switch the SATA operation mode post-install, so you should do the installation under AHCI mode if that's what you plan to use. You should be able to change the flash cache setting whenever you want, though.
