I was speaking to a customer service rep from India about my order status of my xps 1645 and when I asked about shipping my laptop from Malaysia to distribution centers in the United State, he told me that my laptop is built and manufactured in the United States.
I thought all dell laptop were built in Malaysia or some other asian country where Dell can take advantage of cheap labor.
Did the dell customer rep lie to me?

Or he/she was ignorant. All parts are pretty much manufactured from China. It's possible that the notebook is assembled in the US though.
-
He probably means it is going to be assembled in the US. It makes sense from his point of view cause he will have no access to where the parts are manufactured from.
-
parts as in parts from suppliers located in China? I always had the assumption that dell had assembly plants in asia. Never heard of any plants in the USA that does assembly and manufacturing.
-
Dell has plants in Austin TX, North Carolina and Miami Fl in addition to the ones around the world.
-
Here is a very detailed account of how the assembling works.
