soory if there are other threads about the same thing, but i can't seem to find my "search" button, Anywho, I was just wondering if anyone has had experience buying a refurbished dell xps (off dells website). and i was also wondering waht the packaging was like. Does it come in the same box with the manuals and sleeve thing and stuff?

    Thanks guys,

    Morganpete

    Just got mine today. ;)

I did not get the sleeve, but the laptop bag I purchased came with one, so not pursuing that issue. I was also missing my travel remote, but have managed to convince them to send me another one.

A bit of a problem with billing, but I was able to get that resolved.

Other than that, the computer looks like new. I'm pleased thus far.

I can't tell you how the 1530's come. but my last laptop prior to my current order was an XPS M140 from Dell Outlet. It was packaged in brand new retail packaging, everything in sealed bags. The notebook itself was flawless and indistinguishable from new save for the smal "refurbished" sticker on the bottom.

My brother-in-law bought ans inspiron from dell outlet a couple of moths ago. Can't say anytrhing about how it was packaged because I didn't see it, but the notebook is in perfect condition.

Just got my refurbished M1530 Friday afternoon, other than Dell forgetting to send a power cord (which I received about an hour ago), I have not noticed any major issues yet. The computer looks brand new other than the refurbished sticker on the bottom. It did not come with any sort of travel bag, so that was an additional purchase I made this weekend (along with a mouse).

I have 4 computers in the house now (2 with Vista, 2 with XP) and the Vista computers will not recognize my network that I have with the 2 XP computers. Oh well, I'll keep plugging along and hopefully I get it resolved soon.

It helped that all the order information showed that I should have one. I still had to argue for it.

i have a refurb one and only flaw is that there is a little dent on the side of the keyboard, and im not too picky about things like that. Also I actually got 2 travel remote lol, one in the slot(not a dummy) and one seperate in the package.

JR if it is the Keyboard, just hop on dell chat and tell them one of your keys doesn't respond all the time. Or that it is warped. They will shoot you off a new one, and not ask for your old one in return. XPS customer support is pretty dang good.

I have a refurb M1530 and loving it.

They get them from cancelations and returns..

Let's say I ordered one and then I decided to cancel the order, they wont stop making the laptop if it has already started making, and once they finish making it, they put it in dell outlet. If you buy a laptop from dell oulet and got one of these, you are very lucky because these laptops and BRAND NEW at a refurbished price..

Now if you are not as lucky, you will get one that is returned or returned for exchange. Either way, these will be used and dell check the condition of these laptop and put a price on it.. The worse the conditions are, the lower the price are, so if you noticed that there are two laptops with the same exact specs and one is $100 cheaper, it might has a dent or noticable scratch that the other one might not have..

Or I could be completely wrong about how they get them lol..

Also, buying a refurbished laptop wont really save you that much.. If I'm going to spend $1000 on a laptop, heck, I'm getting it new lol..

Check out my specs on my laptop, its almost the top of the line and its shipped for less than $1300.. Ofcourse I used a 25% off coupon plus a 10% off with EPP, it was originally almost $2000 total after shipping and tax, with the coupon and EPP, it came out to be $1283.47 with free next day air!!! :D DEALZ!

You can usually find them on sites like www.couponmountain.com under the Dell section or just google up Dell coupons.

Unfortunately the 25% off coupon for the XPS M1530, XPS M1330 as well as the 20% one have already expired as of May 13.

There are coupons for refurbs from places like the Dell Outlet, many places list them.

EPP is Dell's Employee and Affiliates Purchase Program which offers very impressive discounts for individuals that are part of an organization such as a college, business, etc. You need an EPP code which you get from such an organization or business you are a part of in in order to take advantage of such offers.

I think there are different classifications on Dell Outlet. Customer Ordered New, Refurbished, and Scratch and Dent. The difference between the first two is that a "refurbished" notebook has been powered on by the customer. while the Customer Ordered New has not. (It may (or may not) have been shipped out, but it was returned without the customer powering it on.) Customer Ordered new notebooks are more expensive than refurbished. But with either you're likely to get a perfect notebook.

Scratch and Dent on the other hand is a notebook with visible cosmetic flaws.

If you order a brand new one, it will come in about 2 weeks (although they usually say about 20 days..)

If you buy a refurbished one it will arrive on your door step in like 3 days...

Well, a Dell representative was on the phone with me and after 4 hours of changing my order around, he have me a $55 off plus free next day air, $69 value, so i got $124 off from $1407.47, which was what i was originally going to pay.. But if you belong to an organization, like college or something then get a college code and they will give you extra discount because you are in college.

How do you get the college code? i have no idea..

Just want to do a reality check and tell you that I got an m1330 refurb that was clearly used and should have been marked as a scratch and dent.
I had to have them replace the keyboard, but now it is acceptable.

My screen was good, that's why I did not bother to return it.

so if i did get one that i wasn't happy with just because it had a few cosmetic "blemishes", how difficult would it be to send it back?

It would be better to have the part replaced with a dell on-site support, because it would take like 2 weeks if you send it back
