    Hello,

My Dad has an XPS laptop (I think it's a 13", but I don't know which model exactly) that needs a new battery. I've never had to buy a replacement battery.

Just curious if anyone knows of good aftermarket replacements, or if OEM is the way to go.

I seem to remember that some manufacturers put chips in their batteries to ensure only certified parts are being used.

    Thanks

I would stick with OEM batteries. On the few occasions where I have purchased an aftermarket, they have always tended to fail early. Once you pin down the model# you can try the following vendors in addition to checking what Dell would charge:

Post a picture of the laptop and we'll be able to identify it if you're not sure. Although I bet you a dollar it's an M1330. :p

There are some Chinese eBay sellers are selling 85WHr battery around 60 bucks.
Why they are selling it so cheap?
What's the potential problem if I buy from them?

Look up "Chinese battery explosion" and I'm sure you'll get some hits. Most cheap ones have poor internal controls for dealing with overcharging and discharge rates, so they get super hot and the case bends or fails.
