    Hello team,

I received a replacement hard drive, but the description says it is a 250GB 5400 RPM hard drive. The hard drive I have on the system is 250 GB 7200 RPM. I also checked further specifications on the internet. The replacement Toshiba 250GB hard drive (MK2552GSX) has 8mb buffer while the hard drive currently on the system Seagate 250 GB (ST9250421ASG ) has 16mb buffer.

Has anyone receieved a weaker hard drive as a replacement. I have to return one of them as part of the warranty service.

My question is can I request a new hard drive with at least the same characteristics as the one that is on the system and taht is having constant clicking noise.

I doubt that Dell can distinguish between the 8mb and 16mb buffer. Their ordering system simple asks for a 250Gb, 5400RPM drive, of which Dell has a number of models of in their parts bin.

As far as Dell is concerned, a hard drive is a hard drive is a hard drive.
