Could you provide more info? Is Dell offering you a replacement due to failure of one you currently own? Or are you considering purchasing something to replace your 1640? If they are offering you a replacement then you may be at their mercy for a replacement. They will give you a refurb at equal or slightly upgraded specs if you are past 21 days of purchase. You may just get another 1640 as there are plenty refurb ones. If they don't have any, then a 1645 or xx47. Your options are limited unless you try to get them to give you another line. Maybe the studio 15.

I also wouldn't say that most XPS sytems have problems based on this board. Users here make up a very small percentage of total buyers over all. This just happens to be where people come when they have an issue to get help.

I wouldn't say its a very small percentage as Dell them selfs have acknowledged the throttling issues. I would say alot of them do suffer from it.

To the OP i would push your luck with the m15x. But if not request a studio xps 1645. That is what i requested and its currently being built ( Not a refurb)

    Core i7 720qm 1.6ghz
    6 gb Ram
    Ati 5730
    Wled 900p screen
    blu ray

Compare that to the specs in my sig. Normally they woll give you a great upgrade
