Just got my xps 1530 with LED screen. The screen in bright when it is on AC power and quite dim when it is using the battery. I am guessing this is a power saving feature. How do I change the settings so the screen remains brights while using the battery?

Hold your Fn key and use the up arrow to increase the brightness, that should do it.

power options > advanced power options > there you can fix the display brightness levels for plugged in and on battery separately...

As an alternative, I would also recommend using the VistaBatterySaver tool... quiet nice and useful.... Cheers.

Someone should put a sticky up on this topic - it comes up almost once a day and no one searches for answers to the issue.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=91846

And, I believe that Rhodan will add the info. to his Top 10 Questions about the 1530 guide ~ (there is already a sticky on his whole guide at the top of the page)...you should check it, it's really good and informative ;) :)

^^^ I dont think the OP was asking about the battery or its maintenance or details or whatever or anything related to the top questions sticky!!!

He was just asking about how to adjust screen brightness when plugged in and when on battery and stuff!!

OMG! I am so bad...As always, thanks for pointing these things out to me...I really do appreciate it!!!!! Have a great day!

And, actually the poster I quoted was asking about a possible *sticky* As, there is already a Top 10 Question Guide for the 1530, that was made into a *sticky*....Why not add that info to it???? :p

OMG you are absolutely right... NO-ONE should ever think to offer more helpful information on a tech forum, especially when they are replying to someone asking for help *shakes head*. Dude lighten up

Rhodan's guide is excellent I repped him for it when he started it. Maybe I should rep him again for keeping it up to date and getting Sticky status? I think it isn't mentioned enough to new 1530 users. Good call Cin.

    Another yes-man???????

You mean a possible confusion in the name of offering more advice? its highly possible if the OP was new to comp' and such, he/she would probably end up thinking the screen brightness issue had something to do with the battery being not fine and would have gone on a different track!! I am not saying anything for offering suggestions or whatever, its not my frickin' forum... all I said was the OP was asking for something else completely different!!

    Take a break!!

You can adjust this setting in your BIOS, so that battery power defaults to a certain brightness level. This way you don't have to manually change it.

Ah I didn't know this.. Thanks ATB....

But even if we change it / fix the brightness manually in the advanced power options, it stays that way right? I mean it doesn't change back or anything, right?? I am just wondering.. Thanks again.

If you set it through the OS, it should use that setting first. The BIOS hardware setting is more for when a software or OS setting would be absent. I have not tried this on a Vista notebook yet since I just received my first one today. I don't recall this feature being in XP.

Ah thats cool :) Is that the Studio 15 in your sig?? :) Great.. Hope you have a nice time..

Well, for me, I have fixed the screen brightness from within the OS.. from within the advanced power options and the display brightness stays that way... till now it hasn't changed back or anything (hence the doubt in my mind if there was some particular situation where it would)... so, yeah, till now its been fine and I use the Vista Battery Saver thing where it changes to a diff profile for the battery.. but in either case, I have set the screen brightness from withing Windows, and its perfectly fine till now :) :)

Thanks again.. Enjoy your new system :)

    Thanks!

Yes, I just got it from the Outlet, I'm an Outlet junkie :p . Actually it's my second one, the first had a bad screen where the brightness stayed at the lowest setting, still need to ship it back. This one looks like a winner from the little I got to use it on my lunch break.

I'll have to play around with those settings and see how it acts. The BIOS is actually where I looked first to see if it was set improperly, but after changing it, nothing happened. The Vista power manager is quite extension though, lots and lots of settings.

Thats very true ^^ Hope the OP sees this line of yours..... and I would recommend the OP to take a look in detail there in the power options settings... its very easy to understand and set it up and it works well :) :)

If the OP was asking what fonduekid seems to say s/he was asking, the answer still doesn't appear to have been posted. That answer would be: use the FN and arrow keys with the little blue light bulb (?) icons to adjust up or down. You still need to have settings in the BIOS and your power management settings set up so that you get full control, however.

I made the changes I needed through he energy management in the control panel. I went to power savings plans where you can set the brightness of the screen for AC power and when using battery.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
