Please redirect me if I'm posting in the wrong place. I have a 1640 XPS running Windows 7. Tonight my computer just turned off. I was not touching it, just on a website I always go to. I was able to start it up again. Wondering whether this is a hardware, software, virus problem and how would I tell. I don't want to wait for this to happen again, or worse for my computer to die.

    Thanks for any input.

    Hi,

It could be either because of the hardware or the software. Is the system overheating? Also please check and confirm that the AC adapter is fine and charging the battery.

You may run a hardware diagnostics to identify if there are any hardware issues. Please find below the link for the Dell support page, you may use the same to read information about running the diagnostics.

I hope this helps. Please do write back in case you need any further assistance.

    Thanks and regards
