feel like dumping my m1330 on ebay (too many graphics issue) and get that ...
( ebay selling my exact machine new for $1400, selling used minus fees = ~$900... get that laptop)
similar weight, both LED screen, similar graphics card.... lenovo = newer tech(montevina)... and switchable graphics(integrated and dedicated together)...no wireles-N though....
but then we dont know whether the lenovo will have any problems... but i'd take that risk over the m1330

Well after reading this topic I certainly want to ditch my M1330 for a U330, if that's of any assistance. I probably won't though, only because I don't think my XPS is worth much. It's basically a conglomerate of salvaged and replaced parts in a M1330 chassis.
-
PW...Wowsa!
Nice specs on the Lenovo....
I'm sure if you wanted you could sell the 1330 fairly fast!
That's gonna be a nice decision you have to make!

i really want to do it, but lenovo U330 ships in 3-4 weeks...
sigh.... dont have enough time to deal with te hassles of selling on ebay
(side note, the model numbers look similar.... U330 ~ M1330... think lenovo's laughing at dell?)
and it looks alright(business like, not as sleek as the m1330, but i dont care that much about sleekness)
pic from gizmodo first look, july 15..... bought my laptop july 5th.....
why couldn't intel release montevina as planned in june?!!! >argh< -
I almost wanted to return my Dell M1530 for the T61 cause of all the coupons I could use. **** shame. Since I'm going to school soon, no time to wait for it.
-
I have to admit, that Lenovo is looking pretty slick, especially for a Lenovo.
-
PW....That is actually a really nice looking lappy!
I just noticed the Model number sim' in both! Yar.....yah have wander about that LOL
Cin -
PW...you still have a pretty solid system...plus youre covered by the 4 year warranty. Yeah, its not Centrino 2 or DDR3 but still nice regardless.
I agree with Cin, you could make a quick sale of it and still pocket the difference for yourself.

To throw in another .02:
As an OCD notebook fan and always searching for the perfect system, I will say that the Dell M1330 is on display at Staples. It is a good test to see how a system holds up in such a setting. The keyboard began falling apart. Now, unless someone wrestled them off, it should not have happened. Besides, the keyboard is cheap imitation metallic plastic. I am very surprised at Dell, considering that the Studio line has a beutiful keyboard.
The Lenovo appears to be a better assembled machine, but as of now there are no configuration options. Is it a glossy screen? What about wireless N, can a card be installed?
The Dell Latitude is seductive, but lacks the bang on the reviews.
If it is not a big deal, I would trade up and take the risk; as a Dell owner I would take the risk on a new age lenovo system.
Best of luck, -
uhmmm i just got the m1330
should i return it? ^_^ -
depends on ur specs/price
but the u330 is def a good computer for the price, hdmi, 0.9" thick, led, etc -
Live.com is still offering 10% cashback for Lenovo. So take almost another $100 off that price. Tempting!
-
OP- Is there something wrong with your m1330 or are you just worried about potential problems? just curious. Either way, let us know what you decide. -

If you can sell your M1330 for a good price, then go for it. Although I don't think it will be easy to get a good price since all the new machines are rolling out with on-sale prices too. -
Umm, what the hell happened to this thread?
I am only seeing 8 posts ?
Well, the price didn't account for the cash back. The original price was $1149 - 15% = $976.65 - 10% = $878.99.
They have raised the price $100 since so it is $1249 if you want 3 GB RAM and 320 GB hard drive. Otherwise the model with 2 GB RAM, 250 GB hard drive is $1149. Everything else is the same. Guess it just depends if 1 GB of RAM and hard drive space is worth $100 more to you. -

If you can sell your M1330 for a good price, then go for it. But do it quick, cause I don't think it will be easy to get a good price if you wait too long since all the new machines are rolling out with on-sale prices too. -
i just received my laptop yesterday, i like it but the keyboard had some defects already and there some substance on the keys...like paint or something. haven't used it too much - this lenovo just sounded like it had a way better battery life. i think the m1330 only last ~3hrs? i haven't tested that yet but i would like to be able to at least watch 1 movie/dvd before the battery runs out.
i'll probably just keep mine because knowing what i had to go through with dell, they'll probably transfer me 10x before I can get my return process and they'll probably tack on a 15% restocking fee after.
back to the topic, how much better is the U330 vs the M1330? what's the big difference between the two processors? -
-
somethings wrong with this thread.

test a response to this thread to see what the error is

nope, error still here... see 3 pages but cannot advance... i guess server crash/hiccup at the wrong time?
-
paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
thread works fine now..... server hiccup :|
now back to the topic
since dell 'leaked' info about the new XPS 13..... no actual specs though, and its more than a month away :'( -
It looks like Dell might do a refresh of the current XPS line with Montevina but could still possibly use the nVidia GPU. I can't wait until November for the new model to roll out and I cant see getting a Studio XPS with the same specs as the U330 for the same price.
-
One thing I have grown to hate on the M1330 is the way the edge of the palm rest digs into my wrist when I'm typing in class. The IdeaPad seems to also have a sharp edge on the palm rest unlike the ThinkPad's, Sony Vaio's and the Toshiba. The IdeaPad does have nice specs (smaller processor than these other models) but I'll consider it. I am just hesitant about the palm/wrist rest.

Finally I find people looking at the Lenovo over the dell. I think the U330 is a LOT better than the M1330. The M1330 SHOULD be specced like the U330 but rather dell is holding out on us. You should also check out the Asus U6V or the T400. I really want 4 gigs of ram in my U330 so I might call a rep and talk to them and if I can get it I will. Think I'm going to call tomorrow because that U330 is almost exactly what I want.
Not to mention the new dell is 2 months away and brings NO extra performance than the U330. It's not going to have "faster" tech or anything better it might look better that's it. Hell with those slides showing wood panels do you really wanna carry a laptop to class that has a slab of your dining room table on it? -
I've narrowed down my laptop buying choice down to the Ideapad U330 and the XPS M1330 and I really can't decide...
Dell XPS M1330:
Like the 4GB of Ram and 2.6ghz processor.
Also love the looks, style, and color.
However, don't like the gpu issues that apparently people are having.
Lenovo Ideapad U330
Like the weight and size.
Is a lenovo which means good quality (or at least that's what I expect from lenovo).
Don't like is only 3GB ram max, and 2.0ghz processor. Furthermore, don't like the colors (just black and red...) Also, is not as stylish as the dell. Lastly, doesn't have a fingerprint reader (uses face recognition for security which is great however, I'm not sure how great that would work on low light/no light situations also you wouldn't be able to use a different finger to open different applications as with a finger print reader).
As you can see is a hard choice and I really don't know what to do.
Note: Have the spec of the new/to be released 13inch XPS been released? If so how do they compare with the U330?
Thanks
-TW -
My choices are between the M1330, the Ideapad U330 and the Thinkpad T400.
Upgrading the ram in the Ideapad U330 yourself shouldn't be a problem as memory is very cheap lately. Order the 2GB version and upgrade yourself. The processor on the U330 does seem a bit lacking but they probably were considering heat issues due to the small package. However I think the U330 is much more professional looking then the M1330.
I never thought of low-light situations on the facial... ****.
The reason I started looking elsewhere after the M1330 was the GPU issues so I share your concern there.
My U330 will be shipping on October 3, 2008... hopefully I can calm my mind before then. -
paper_wastage Beat this 7x7x7 Cube
just a hint: fingerprint reader is just an optional component IMO... not a deal breaker....
besides, the best way is to set BIOS password, not OS password... -
Not like it helps, but is good to know I'm not the only one who is stuck between which to buy...
I'm thinking of waiting on this one (wasn't thinking of buying till november anyways) and see if the U330 is released with a customizable option and hopefully new colors. Also, it would allow me to compare the new dell xps, and studio (and who knows, even the new mac book) with my original choices.
-TW -
I would definitely trade my M1330 for that U330 but am not willing to sell on Ebay.
-
Just returned my m1330 and got a full refund! Now I can start to consider getting this one or the other lenovos! Woohoo!
-
I am in the same boat as well. I have 3 more months of warranty on the m1330 computers. Towards the end, I'll get the motherboards replaced on both, and probably sell them to buy the U330. Just need to find someone who has it to play with it
-
Can't wait to see a proper review of the U330. I can't find any details ones at the moment.
I kinda want to get rid of my m1330. -
-
But quick question, if I order through the phone would I be able to use any of the coupons/deals out there?
-TW -
Now this is tempting. U330 under $1K ($903.08 to be exact)

The 1330 looks a lot better than the U330
No doubt whatever they make to replace the XPS M1330, whether its a new XPS line or a "Studio XPS" line, it will be equally as stunning as the M1330 or even better. Plus when they are out you can get the "latest" processors etc -
-
Is this U330 available in Canada? I can't seem to find it on the Canadian site. http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/...-category-id=3E6104B5827D488DA12BA359240B4668

Yes it is not available to poor Canadians, lol. I ordered from USA and waiting for its shipment on sept 30th, I have checked a lot before ordering this. it is way better deal at the moment compairing others in the marke.
sigh...LENOVO IdeaPad U330 vs M1330
