hello guyz,
I ve got 9550 (xps 15) with I7, 512 SSD. I have to wait for the PC, 18-19 seconds, to boot. Actually, the time lasts from when I push the button to when the win signing screen ends.
I think the time is not acceptable for such an advanced configuration. The dell logo sticks weirdly to screen for longer time than usual. So, I guess it is dell-based problem.
I am just wondering whether to have a solution for faster boot-up.
note; latest bios (1.19), not clean install (it is as I had got from dell).
-
I really wouldn't worry about it.
There are so many other things that are great about the laptop, and so many other things that could go horribly wrong, that I wouldn't consider a 19-second boot time to be "not acceptable".
If it really bothers you that much, do a clean rebuild of the laptop.

Interesting, why is this?
-
It does memory training as the BIOS loads so this extends BIOS time.
Google it and you will find an interesting read that I cannot understand
I have an Asus R5E and this gets thrown around when people question the long BIOS time for a high end board. -
That explains why my razer blade loaded faster with slower ssd and memory
-
ohh gosh, that must be point. My bro has a brand new acer v-nitro v7 and replace existing ram ddr4 2133mhz with a new pair of ddr4 2800mhz.
The results are perfect. The booting time went down from 8 to 6.( an increase of %25) Additionally, everything is much smoother than it was. (games, opening apps, surfing, boot time etc)
Maybe, the problem is the ram..Kikuri likes this. -
But I think the usable RAM and the mainboard would be the problem.
You can't use the DDR4-RAM @2800 MHz at this mainboard. -
it is currently capped at 2666mhz, maybe the next bios update is gonna bring an usable 2800mhz ram bandwidth.Last edited: Mar 22, 2016

Dell will not allow higher ram speeds as it will cause more heat + more power drain. It will never read and use an XMP profile but always the jedec default 2133mhz
-
Do not agree.. many xps 9550 with a pair of 2666mhz RAM is on sale on ebay. I guess they are working pretty nice. However, 2800mhz is capped at 2666, so we cannot currently get any benefit fully from it
-
Have you got proof the 2666 ram is running at that speed as the last guy on here to put faster ram in said it ran at jedec defaults of 2133.

Yep, mine defaulted to 2133mhz as well. Nothing I could do to get the full 2666 out of it.ALLurGroceries likes this. -
Are you booting in legacy or UEFI mode?
Installing the OS in legacy would add at least a couple of seconds. My XPS 15 9550 boots up in less than 8 seconds.Kikuri likes this. -
What's your configuration mathnerd? AHCI or RAID? I have the already mentioned 19 secs
-
It is raid , I ve never touched any bios config.
-
did you test it via CPU-Z? link; http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
-
I am happy too as I make u happy, man!
-
less than 8 sec.. are u kidda?
It is dell-setup with bloatwares.. have never touched the system. -

Have you heard of Microsoft Store? I bought mine through there and it doesn't come with any bloatware (Signature Edition.) I also did my own clean install anyways and reformat so I know exactly what goes into my laptop.
You can do the same even if you bought it from Dell...Kikuri likes this. -
Yup. I have 2400mhz DDR4 but it runs at 2133mhz. RAM has never been magical.Last edited: Mar 23, 2016

DDR3 ??
-
yeah, I know signature edition is out there. But, I don't think so the boot time is related to any bloatware. Whenever I open, DELL logo sticks to screen almost 9 seconds.
Whatever it is, clean install looks giving smother win experience and better battery life. I will do a clean install. Any advise on installing clean win or any important experience/step you would like to share? -
typo. ddr 4

Yes. You can try following my post here. I spent hours trying to find a solution because Windows 10 install wouldn't recognize my SSD drive, and came up blank. I also encountered an issue after install, that you need to download the wifi drivers with A03 revision for the DW 1830 or else your radio antenna doesn't work.

Keep a folder in your Windows 10 installation USB with all the required Dell Drivers (I would recommend at least have the WiFi driver in there, because at least you'll be able to connect to the internet and download more drivers later.) Otherwise, you're going to need a second computer to transfer drivers over.

It is UEFI
I found this video very informative... interestingly installation seems to be too easy..
should I go with it ? pls any suggestionLast edited: Mar 23, 2016Kikuri likes this. -
Uploading my custom ISO at the moment, threads prepared to be posted if you want to wait an hour.huckie likes this.

man somen somehow
I posted somehow wrong video; I meant this;

You could go that route, but know that my installation froze going through that method and constantly did a reboot loop. It was easier for me to do a complete full reformat and start over brand new, as if I installed a new SSD drive myself.

mega.nz crapped out on my upload, new eta about 2 hours unless it takes another dump!
