Some people are waiting until Dell offer the "Free Upgrade" to Windows 7 from select versions of Windows Vista. July 1st seems to be the date when this offer will be released.

hmm windows 7 free upgrade has got me thinking.

i had been offered 20%off for a studio xps with p8600,4gb,128gb ssd, rgb led screen all for £1050. but if the windows 7 upgrade is july 1st :/

i think im going to wait as this would save me around £100 which is quite a lot.
it will also give time for dell to do a refresh and offer red and the new gpu in the uk(hopfully a 900p rgbled screen, fingers crossed)

Dell is running a 10 day sales right now (in the US), and the Studio XPS 16 will be on sale tomorrow. You should configure a SXPS today and note the price, then see how much you can save tomorrow. I think the regular Windows 7 upgrade price is $49. So do your maths and see which one is a better deal.

dells 10 day sale is just normal prices.

$49 in the us usually ends up £49 in the up lol with windows.

plus if i get a free gpu upgrade and i just rang the guy and he said that he can do the same deal in 2 weeks, i can wait.

also, the 1080p screen price changes a LOT, it changes between £140,£200 and £245 every few weeks and atm its £245 so i may save £105 more.

vista upgrade is £78 in the uk from XP

here we go again, aint my fault i got 2 broken ones in a row.
i gave my macbook pro to my brother as he wanted it cus he loves macs and the fact that it was overpriced for me and he gave me more money then i go it for.

i didnt buy 4 and return them, i bought 1 which had a keyboard which didnt work, so they send me another with a faulty hard drive so i sent it back and didnt get another.
i liked the dell but the fact that i got 2 mess ups in a row pissed me off, im sure you wouldnt like it either having to be home to wait for a pickup/delivery 4 times.

    whats your problem anyway?

You send in a coupon and processing fee for shipping and the cost of the disc (I think it was $10 last time) and Dell sends you the DVD.

I'm guessing this date applies to purchases. You think dell will allow customers who just missed the date to get the update? my ship date is the 25th

Yes, that's correct. Computers purchased after this date should be eligible for a free upgrade to W7. We'll just have to wait and see exactly how Dell implement it. Maybe if you phone them up and ask nicely? :D

Microsoft will allow vendors to offer an upgrade, but it's not required. Dell has not yet confirmed how they will handle the upgrade. We have to wait for an official announcement from Dell.

Dell is going to start offering the SXPS 16 in a Gold model. It comes complete with spinners on the sides and a grill. Oh, and the lid has hydraulics.

im quite sure dell will do it near or on the windows' windows 7 upgrade program as they are the largest pc vendor.

Dell offered this for the full period with Vista, if I remember correctly. And Asus has started including fliers with a June 26th date in their notebooks...which must suck for people who just bought one before the opening date..."If you'd waited a week, you could have had Windows 7".

I ordered my XPS 16 a few weeks ago and just got it today...probably too early for the free Win 7 upgrade. But I'm not too concerned...my main use for any machine is ProTools for audio recording, and I'm sure Digidesign will be slower than in getting Windows 7 certified for use. Hell, 64-bit with any OS is still not supported, and it's the only reason I'm running 32-bit at the moment. The 3 GB limit really sucks.
