Well on the first "level" of the fan, it's nearly not hearable, you'll hear the hdd and so on very clearly as the fan is not very load...

But then after awhile or when surfing for example a flash based homepage... youtube?, and flipping windows fast or something, the fan will go up a "level" , where you can hear the fan very good..

When I ran the 3d mark test I would say that the fan was on the highest level (highest RPM) it can be..

but my "main" question is if ur fan is getting "noisy" just by doing "low performance" tasks..

This is in "high performance mode" in the scheme btw, when on balances mode or something it takes more for the fan to go up.

You have nothing too worry about, my XPS 1530 does exactly the same. I thinks its because if you run it in performance mode then the processor speed is kept at 100% where as in balanced mode it can vary between 5% and 100% therefore it does not heat up as much and so the fan does not need to run as fast. See the following link if my explanation isnt clear:

Just to be sure, is there anyone else exp the same thing?

When High Performance turned on, the fan can go on while surfing / chatting, watching youtube etc... (not in heavy use that is)

    Thanks for answers :)

Is this on high performance or in balanced mode?

Also: When playing games, is the fan alsmost in its highest rpm for you guys too? (that is expected tho, just asking :p)

Yes, even when just sitting here doing nothing the fan will on occasion turn on. It let's heat build up a bit and then shoves it all out with the burst of the fan it would seem.

Could be a defect not sure - I don't experience these fan problems. Some models are probably built differently, my drive doesn't make any loud sounds on power on.
