7" touch screen w/ digitizer... its about 6.5" x 4.09", just the right size for the palm rest on the right of the builtin touchpad... ( i never use the fingerprint reader anyways)

its about 1mm in height, so putting it there shouldnt scratch the screen (i have a screen protector anyways... or i could get a spare palm rest part and make a large hole to put the touchpad in..

Circuit board is small enough to fit into the expresscard enclosure, but the height might be a problem... might as well remvoe the entire expresscard enclosure since i dont use expresscard... wonder if expresscard pins are compatible with usb pins... otherwise will need a wire sticking out of the expresscard slot to connect to the USB(or further mod a wire internally between expresscard slot to usb on motherboard...

currently no time to do it yet (college courseload = :(... and dealextreme takes ~1 month to ship to northeast usa.. probably try it in the summer)

Ooo sounds interesting. I've been quite interested in perhaps installing something similar on my Asus' palmrest. Let me know what luck you have!

i really like this idea. Please tell me how it turns out and i will probably do it in the summer also =D
I don't have a fingerprint reader so there's plenty of space for mods =]

This is something I would love to do too. My useless smartcard reader is positioned in such a way that I could take it out with no consequences and have 3mm of room to work with.

    Keep us updated on this!

Expresscard has USB pins in it (to make it easier for some manufactures to turn their USB devices into Expresscard devices easily). That should make things a bit easier for you! Put pictures up when you are done, I would love to see how it goes!
Also, you said it is a Touch Screen W/ digitizer. It is actually ONLY the digitizer as it is meant to be put on top of an EEE PCs screen to make it into a touchscreen. Good luck converting the digitizer input into mouse as digitizers are usually calibrated to just click the mouse wherever you touch and not just move the mouse around.

we'll see.... if it sticks out...
the thing i'm worried is that ExpressCard drives stuff at 3.3v, while USB drives it at 5v... for flash drives, it might not matter, but for this device, maybe it requires more power... and how i'll connect the pins... soldering?

i'll see if there are drivers (or maybe if i could code some drivers // high inspirations).... otherwise, "two finger scrolling"?.... one finger uses the large touch pad for quick movement, the thumb uses the small touchpad for precision :D

usps shows the shipment is in NY right now... should be here by the end of the week for me to play with :D

[on another note... one more stupid final on wednesday morning.... don't feel like studying]
