don't get me wrong, it is a wonderful system, but i've under estimated its size. i wish i'd gone for the L502x instead. does Dell charge you 15% restocking fee for any returns if not their fault? if so, 15% is base on the original non-discounted price or the price i paid?

Since you'll need to contact them to get a return authorization and shipping label, you can call or start a chat session at the tech support page to find out what the policy is for where you live, and then start the return process.
If you don't like what you hear from the first person you contact, you may have better luck calling again and getting a different rep. -

I returned my original one, the wouldn't even take it at first since I was outside 21 days (had the thing 13 days...their window starts before they even ship, I oughta find me a good lawyer and go after Dell for that one, it has to be illegal somehow->misadvertising at the least). When I yelled enough that they accepted a return (I was an early purchaser, got the lie about how I would get 4 RAM slots, I also got told they wouldn't have a non-3D FHD which they did a week or 2 after I received...), they did not try to charge me a restock fee, though they normally do. Maybe you will get lucky.
Dell charges the restock fee since they take the returned systems that work, reinstall Windows, and then sell them on the Outlet at big discounts. With the 15% restock fee, they don't lose too much money from the original sale price that way. But I think inside 21 days they don't charge a restock even if it is just because you didn't like it. My situation was unique... -
Dell told me to return it and order the configuration I wanted. I guess their bean counters have done the math and determined it's cheaper for them to pay to ship it out and to have it shipped back than it is to interrupt the well oiled machinery of their production process.
They also told me they could not initiate the return process until it was delivered. I ordered the config I wanted right away, so for about three weeks I had two of them on order. I returned the first one unopened.
They told me the credit would take up to 30 days to hit my credit card, but it acutally showed up three days after UPS tracking indicated they had received it. Due to forunate timing, because they didn't charge my card until it shipped, both the charge and the credit appeard on the same credit card statement.
When I called to return it, they offered me $50 to keep it, which I declined. I briefly contemplated initiating a return on the one I actually wanted, just to get the $50 offer, but it seemed like a hassle, and a little skeezy as well. Not that I can't be a skeez if it's called for. However, if they make you the same offer and you can at all see your way clear to keeping the one you have, and it is a great laptop, you might consider initally countering with $200, and see if you can't get them up to $100 or $125. -
Here is the return policy information:

Are you interested in returning and ordering the L502x? -

I had a completely different experience just today. It was an outlet purchase, but still.

HP envy or the beats editions are pretty well received across the board. If you ask me, the XPS L502X is a more complete machine (with way more options and you can put better hardware in it if you choose), but way less pretty and portable than the envy.
The XPS 15 is probably the least portable 15 incher out there. It's just heavy haha. -
the XPS 15 isn't really all that heavy at just shy of 6 pounds. It's just thicker than most 15-inchers. My Precision M4400 with the 9-Cell is heavier, I believe. -
The XPS 15 is definitely far from being the heaviest 15 incher out there. However, I do believe as a result of the thicker base, heat dissapation is superior than most notebooks in this class.

The dv6t 61xx I returned in favor of the l502x was 5.78 lbs (0.18lb lighter than l502x), and it wasn't all that bad in weight. It's all a matter of perspective, I guess.
thinking of returning my new L702x, restocking fee question
