I think they stopped offering the RGBLED as an option for sometime now. The best option is to opt for the 15.6 WLED 1080p, which I also have heard is a very nice screen.

There are also refurbished models on the Dell website that have RGB LED, and they're relatively cheap (give or take $1000 usually). Not sure if you're interested in refurb though...

If you never see a RGB you'll never know what you're missing. If you're content with one thing then why upset yourself by looking elsewhere.

once you had RGB, you never go back.
i have owned 5 laptops since 2008, 2 dell studio17 and 3 xps 16s, all of them came with RGB led screen.
there is no way im gonna buy a computer w/o RGB screen.

Ok - I have heard that the RGB LED screen is good, and you all are confirming that -so why did they stop offering it?

Quite surprising to hear they've dropped the RGB LED option in the USA.

It's still available here Downunder :)

My guess is they stopped offering it because it draws more power than the WLED? Therefore contributes more to throttling?

Edit: But yes, still available in Australia on the XPS16, but I couldnt add an RGBLED to the AW M15x.

I think cook99 is correct as to why Dell stopped providing the RGB. It does require more power to run. Also I believe they had some sort of trouble with the RGB-LED manufacturer at some point, though that still doesn't explain why Australia still gets it and the US doesn't. Maybe the number of complaints about throttling in the US were more than the number of complaints in Australia, so Dell decided to cut it to ease complaints   ? I don't think we will ever know... it is a fantastic screen though (not to rub it in or anything :) ).

It was a supply-chain issue more than anything.
BTW the power draw is marginal at best... like .05-.07 watts. Like the difference between a standard HDD and a SSD.

Not really. My battery life from 900p display > RGBLed Display. I lost over and hours battery life after my screens being switched so it does drain alot more power

The user reports say that the RGBLED screen uses around 3x as much power as the non RGBLED. So the RGBLED probably uses over 30 watts at full brightness.

900p to 1920X 1080 is big difference you really can't compare. If you need max battery life then the RGB was never going to work for you.

As you say at full power no one I know uses that it "full power" it's too bright unless you are outdoors but hours lost? In normal use maybe a half hour less on a single battery charge. but no way 3X power use even at full brightness.

900p to 1080p Wled there is no difference except res. Everything else is exactly the same. But from Wled to RGBled Power draw is significantly increased. Battery life was cut from 4 : 20 > just under 3 : 00. That is about a 25% decrease in battery life. Did i say i needed max battery life? No

I was just stating that the Wled screen has significantly more battery life then the RGBled. You lose battery for pure brilliance its a good trade off for me
